Elon Musk Says The Tesla Cybertruck Will Be Waterproof And “Serve As A Boat” | Carscoops.

Much like the second-generation Tesla Roadster and the Tesla Semi, the automaker’s Cybertruck has been hit with numerous delays but could eventually reach the hands of customers next year. When it does, it will be waterproof, according to Elon Musk.

The eccentric chief executive recently took to Twitter to reveal that the Cybertruck will be able to briefly serve as a boat.

“Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes & even seas that aren’t too choppy,” Musk wrote before adding that it “needs be able to get from Starbase to South Padre Island, which requires crossing the channel.”

This isn’t the first time that Musk has spruiked the water-crossing abilities of a Tesla model. In 2016, he said that the Model S can float like a boat but discouraged owners from using it as such.

Technical specifications for the production-ready Tesla Cybertruck have not been announced. In fact, the automaker hasn’t provided any updates to its specs since it was first showcased to the world in November 2019. At the time, Tesla claimed the electric pickup would be good for up to 500 miles (805 km) of range, a 3,500 lbs (1,588 kg) payload, and up to 14,000 lbs (6,350 kg) of towing capacity, although these figures could change for the model that reaches the hands of customers.

Musk confirmed in August that the Cybertruck will cost more than originally promised. Citing inflationary pressures, Musk noted that the truck can no longer be sold for the original $39,900 starting price that was touted at its unveiling.
