For the first time in decades a former United States President has visited Logansport. President Bill Clinton addressed a crowd in the gymnasium at Lincoln Middle School, for his wife Hillary’s bid for 2008 presidential campaign.

The city has established a two-hour parking limit in the downtown area from Seventh Street to First Street.

Area businesses are preparing for a 1 percent sales tax increase.

Logansport High School’s team won its first-ever state championship in the concert division at the State Indoor Drumline competition at Ben Davis High School at Indianapolis.

25 years

Jim Callaghan, chief financial officer and vice president of the Mathew-Warren plant reported his firm intends to increase wages and add jobs, increasing the work force from, 179 to 196.

Sangralea Valley, which was closed for some time, is now open as Sangralea Valley Camp.

Local used car dealer Rick Crawley has discovered a 1920 ReVere touring car, which was manufactured in Logansport, for sale in Las Vegas, Nevada. He and the Heartland Cruisers car club and the Cass County Historical Society are on a mission to get the community to donate the money to purchase the car.

Logansport City Council is considering the creation of a redevelopment authority and redevelopment commission after hearing a presentation.

LHS’ Jon-Myckle Price was selected to the Academic All-State Boys Swimming team.

50 years

Release of the remaining 148 American prisoners of war in Indochina, originally scheduled for this weekend, was delayed by new demands from the Communists that were rejected by the United States.

The Cass County Selective Service office will be closed before the end of the year.

Uncertainty of gas and oil supplies and increased load demand has forced construction here of a temporary 10,000 KVA electric power substation.

The Twelve Mile school building will be torn down. The contract for demolition was awarded to the lowest bidder, Orville Glassburn of Kokomo.

A new chapel is under construction at the Logansport State Hospital.

Kathryn Mallett, 20, Logansport, was named to the “500” Festival Queen’s Court.

Bids on the new Logansport hospital will be opened on May 8.

The decision of the officers of the Yeoman order in their selection of a site for the National Children’s Home of the Brotherhood of American Yeoman lodge hinges to a great extent upon the interest and enthusiasm which is manifested by Logansport in the matter.

The deed showing the transfer of the real estate and plant of the ReVere concern to the present owners was filed to be recorded by Henry A. Kraut.

The City News Stand, 303 Market, has installed a beautiful showcase of elaborate design constructed by Parker & Johnson company of this city.

Twenty-five army trucks hauling soldiers to Jeffersonville stopped in Logansport for the night. The soldiers bedded down in Spencer Park.

A magnificent statue of Abraham Lincoln, purchased with money raised by Prof. Richardson’s history classes of the high school, now graces the main corridor of the building, facing the Broadway entrance.
