The Dark Knight trilogy is considered one of the best and biggest superhero trilogies ever made. The director, Christopher Nolan showed off his excellent direction skills in the superhero genre and his dark and gritty depiction of Gotham and its superhero won hearts. With an ensemble cast involving Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger, the series revived Batman after the previous iterations of the character were not major hits.

2008 The Dark Knight changed the entire superhero game forever. While fans highly appreciated the film, it never addressed what happened to the late actor Heath Ledger‘s character, Joker in the film.

The answer lies in the famous Penthouse scene. The antagonist was hired by Gotham City’s mob bosses to face Christian Bale’s Batman/Bruce Wayne who made quite an advancement in the film and proved to be much more dangerous than one would have anticipated.

In the film, Joker breaks into Wayne’s penthouse party and moments later started his intense conversation with Rachel Dawes (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal) when Batman intervenes with  Joker throwing Dawes out of the window.

Though Batman succeeds in catching her, the film never disclosed Joker’s angle. However, a fan has tweeted the alleged deleted scene from The Dark Knight alongside the picture. Check out the tweet here.

As per their theory, the antagonist successfully escaped from the party by getting in a car driven by an anonymous henchman. Though they claim that the scene was from the film itself, it was not officially released. While Nolan mentioned that there were quite a few deleted scenes for the trilogy, no scenes were officially been uploaded.

In early 2008, Ledger died of an accidental drug overdose at age 28. His demise shocked the world as the young actor was at the peak of his career. Many suggested that his intense Joker character affected his personality on some level.

In an interview with New York Times, he explained that “a psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy” character was draining him.

He was already struggling with insomnia which deteriorated further as he explained back at the time that he could only sleep “an average of two hours a night.” While he many reported that he was struggling due to the dark character in the film, his family stated that he was having fun with the fictional character.

The Dark Knight trilogy is available on HBO Max.
