Passport rule that may put a stop to your European travels appeared on www.cambridge-news.co.uk by CambridgeshireLive.

For many 2023 will be a time for many to be more adventurous, and seek out new cultures and languages in Europe. However, if you’d planned on taking a trip to Europe this year you may have to acquaint yourself with the current passport rules.

If you’re travelling to a country within the EU you must follow Schengen area passport requirements. The countries included in these rules are any country in the EU (barring Ireland), and Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino or Vatican City.

It’s common knowledge that your passport needs to be valid for a minimum of three months before your departure date. What may not be known, however, is that your passport needs to have been issued less than 10 years before the date you arrive in the country, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Many travellers have been caught out because they think their passports are valid because they are not due to expire for some time. However, if you turn up at an airport with an invalid passport you may be denied entry to EU countries.

You can check your issue date in your passport. It will be under ‘date of issue’.

If your passport was issued before October 1, 2018, extra months may have been added to its expiry date, but these months will not be valid for people entering the EU.

It’s also worth checking on the Foreign Office’s website to making sure you meet the entry requirements of the destination country before booking your trip.
