Robert Downey Jr. had several romantic relationships before settling down with his current wife of 18 years, Susan Downey. One of the actor’s famous girlfriends was Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker whom he dated for 7 years between 1984 and 1991. The couple looked to have a healthy relationship that seemed to hint at marriage but hit the rocky ground when Robert Downey Jr. started a downward spiraling journey towards substance abuse.

Despite the Due Date star’s dangerous descent into alcohol and drugs and his subsequent run-in with law enforcement which sealed the deal on the couple’s breakup, Sarah Jessica Parker was reluctant to leave him. The Honeymoon in Vegas star spoke candidly regarding her fear and concern about Downey Jr. stating,

“The biggest hardest choices about those kinds of relationships are feeling brave enough to leave, even if you think they’re going to die. Because you stay, not because you’re in love anymore-You love this person, and you’re afraid they’re gonna die if you aren’t there to shore up their base every single solitary day… I just didn’t want him to die.”

Subsequently, Parker realized that she had done her best for her ex-boyfriend and made peace with the fact that she wasn’t the person who could help him and finally went her separate way.

Robert Downey Jr.’s ex-girlfriend Sarah Jessica Parker has revealed that she has no regrets about her relationship with the Avengers star. The two celebrities who met as teenagers on the sets of their 1984 film Firstborn, dated for a long period before Downey Jr.’s addiction got in the way of their romance. Parker in a candid interview relived her experiences with The Judge actor and said,

I will say, I don’t regret any of it. I don’t resent the time spent.”

She went on to add that the relationship taught her many positive aspects of life like taking care of people, giving unconditional love, and also learning parental skills through the process of looking after Robert Downey Jr. during his lowest ebb.
