Spider-Man 2 Fans Are Upset With Special Edition PS5’s “Lazy” Design appeared on by TheGamer.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s release date is still a little under two months away, but to get fans hyped up nice and early, PlayStation has been selling the special edition PS5 console, plates, and controller that were first announced about a month ago. These products recently shipped to everyone who has pre-ordered, and despite being a pretty snazzy looking machine in the announcement trailer, fans aren’t best pleased about its overall design

In fact, its the right side of the console that appears to be upsetting fans the most, as a fairly popular thread on the Spider-Man PS4 subreddit includes a bunch of people calling the design “lazy” and a “quick cashgrab”. The left side of the system is probably all you’ve seen so far, sporting a pretty cool red and black design that is meant to resemble tendrils covering up Spider-Man, in reference to Venom.

When you look at the other side, as seen in the Reddit post by u/DEXu09 below, you can begin to see why so many fans are taking issue with it. None of the tendril design is seen on the right side of the system, which is instead just entirely black with a Spider-Man logo placed rather haphazardly towards the bottom, and not even in the center. It’s a lot less detail than the left side, and some are even claiming that there are “better fanmade ps5 themes than this”.

Thankfully, the fact that it’s on the right side of the console means that if you have your PS5 horizontal, the lackluster side isn’t on display, but it’s still kind of a kick in the teeth for all of those who have their systems displayed vertically. The controller is still kind of neat though, and has a much more consistent design than the system itself, but it still leaves a lot to be desired when Xbox is killing the Xbox Series X cosmetics game with all the great looking Starfield merch that’s being released.

In other Spider-Man 2 news, the game’s official file size was recently leaked via the box for the special edition console, and it’s going to be a beefy one. Best get ready to clear out some games on your PS5s next month, as Spider-Man 2 will take up a whopping 98GB worth of space, which is almost double that of Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Hopefully, this is an indicator that the game will be pretty big with plenty to do, but we won’t find out for sure until the game launches on October 20 next month.
