The free PlayStation Plus games for February 2023 announcement may come later than expected. PlayStation Plus subscribers are used to learning about the next free games on the last Wednesday of each month, but that’s not really how the program works.
While the free PS Plus games announcement does typically happen on the last Wednesday of each month, the more important date is whenever the first Tuesday of the next month takes place. The PlayStation Store is updated on Tuesdays, and so there are some months when announcing the free PS Plus games on the last Wednesday of that month would potentially result in two weeks of waiting. That’s the case PS Plus finds itself in with the free games for February 2023.
The last Wednesday of January 2023 is January 25. However, the following Tuesday is January 31. So, if Sony decided to announce the free PS Plus games for February 2023 on January 25, subscribers would be waiting nearly two weeks for Tuesday, February 7 (the first Tuesday of February) to roll around to claim their free games. Because of this, the most likely scenario is that the free PlayStation Plus games for February 2023 won’t be announced until Wednesday, February 1.
Free PS Plus Games for February 2023 Will Likely Stick to the Pattern
Whenever the free PS Plus games for February 2023 are announced, they will almost certainly consist of at least one PS5 game and two PS4 games. Of course, if they are cross-gen games, it’s possible that PS Plus subscribers will have access to both versions, though that’s not always the case. There are multiple examples since the PS5 launched of PlayStation Plus subscribers only getting access to either the PS4 version of a game or the PS5 version, though that doesn’t seem to happen quite as much anymore.
While fans wait for more information on the free PS Plus games for February 2023, they still have plenty of time to grab the free PS Plus games for January 2023. The free PS Plus games for January 2023 have started the year off pretty strong, giving subscribers access to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Axiom Verge 2, and Fallout 76. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Fallout 76 are both big budget releases, whereas Axiom Verge 2 is a well-regarded indie game. Time will tell if the free PS Plus games for February 2023 are able to match or exceed the January offerings, but subscribers will likely find out on Wednesday, February 1, assuming Sony does not deviate from its established pattern.
