10 Actors With The Most Distinctive Voices In Film & TV, According To Reddit appeared on screenrant.com by ScreenRant.

The recent news that James Earl Jones is retiring from voicing the character of Darth Vader was a sad one for many fans (per Variety). After all, Jones has one of the most recognizable voices in popular culture. Deep and resonant, it endowed Vader with the ominous presence he possessed in the various entries in the Star Wars saga.

However, there are also a number of other actors who also possess distinctive voices. The users of Reddit have identified the most notable of these, pointing out how these individuals’ voices have played a key part in their on-screen successes.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

10/10 Kristen Schaal

By this point, Kristen Schaal is probably most famous for providing the voice of Louise Belcher on the hit adult animated series Bob’s Burgers. Bangersnmash13 says as much, writing, “She’s always Louise no matter what.”

With a voice that somehow manages to be both very grating and endearing at the same time, she always manages to imbue her characters, whether live-action or animated, with her own signature brand of charm and charisma. This is as true of Louise as it is of the Guide, the character that she plays in What We Do In the Shadows.

9/10 Vincent Price

During his lifetime, Vincent Price was one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood. He was particularly well-known for appearing in a truly staggering number of horror movies (many of which were very campy), and he seemed to always relish the delivery of his lines.

RingsideRoss had this to say about one of his particular performances: “I remember watching a video of him reading The Raven, and it was amazing and creepy.” Because of his delivery, he somehow managed to make his characters both very frightening and also very amusing. It’s no wonder he appeared in so many of them, both live-action and animated.

8/10 Gilbert Gottfried

The late Gilbert Gottfried truly had a very distinct voice. Abrasive and at times downright obnoxious, he used it to good effect in a number of roles, particularly that of Iago in the various Aladdin movies and television series.

ValenBeno89 amusingly states: “This is the answer. We can all scroll to the next thread now.” The true brilliance of his performance is that he managed to take such an unpleasant delivery and leverage it to his own advantage. He is truly one of those actors whose voices will remain enshrined in the public imagination.

7/10 Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman is one of the most beloved and respected actors of his generation. Much of this comes from his innate charisma, but it is also due in part to his voice. Rich and mellifluous, it is the type of voice seemingly designed to instill comfort and to convey authority.

Riley1_2 puts it this way: “Morgan Freeman also has a distinct voice. His narration in the Shawshank Redemption made this movie much more intriguing.” Anytime he appears in a given movie, he adds a layer of gravitas and respectability. It’s no wonder he was chosen to play God in Bruce Almighty.

6/10 Scarlett Johansson

By now, Scarlett Johansson has become synonymous with Black Widow, one of the best female characters in the MCU. However, she has shown she is a remarkable acting talent, particularly when it comes to her voice.

Riley1_2 says that “you could recognize her deep groovy voice from a mile.” As she demonstrated in Her, she knows how to use her voice to maximum effect. One can also see this in her performance as Black Widow, as she uses her voice to bring out the character’s unique combination of strength and vulnerability.

5/10 Shohreh Aghdashloo

Shohreh Aghdashloo is famous for a number of roles, most recently appearing in The Flight Attendant (one of the best shows on HBO Max). Her voice is truly unique, with a rich, smoky, gravelly quality that is only rarely seen in Hollywood (at least among women).

CleverReferences says: “Shohreh Aghdashloo has a phenomenal and extremely distinctive voice. I love when she shows up in movies and shows.” Given just how distinct it is, it’s no wonder that she has made a number of noted appearances. She is equally adept at appearing in both live-action and animated roles.

4/10 Patrick Warburton

Though he was originally most famous for appearing in Seinfeld, Patrick Warburton has used his deep, powerful voice to become a truly iconic voice in animation. Among others, he has played Kronk in The Emperor’s New Groove, one of Disney’s funniest and most underrated movies.

Jayforwork21 is particularly laudatory of his abilities, writing: “I love how every character is the same voice, but also just slightly different. Like you could clearly tell Ron Joe Swanson from Brock Samson.” Indeed, part of Warburton’s great skill as a voice actor is his ability to bring out fine shades of character and personality in every person that he portrays.

3/10 Fran Drescher

Fran Drescher became a household name for appearing as Fran Fine in the sitcom The Nanny, one of the best sitcoms of the 1990s. Part of what made the character so lovable and appealing was her voice, which Drescher used to maximum effect. It somehow managed to strike the right balance between irritating and enchanting.

VapoursandSpleen writes simply, “Her “Nanny” laugh is amazing.” Throughout the series, Drescher managed to make Fran Fine into someone that the audience wanted to spend more time with. More to the point, she was also someone that they wanted to succeed.

2/10 Rosie Perez

Sometimes, an actor gains a distinctive voice because of their timbre. At others, it’s because of their particular accent. This is certainly the case with Rosie Perez, who has made a number of highly-acclaimed performances, including in Birds of Prey (one of the best movies in the DCEU).

?????49erville puts it this way: “Rosie Perez has that same New York nasal thing as well,” referring to her vocal similarities to Fran Descher. This particular accent is apparent in almost every role in which Perez appears, and it has become a key part of her appeal as an actress and as a star.

1/10 Tim Curry

With his rich, deep baritone, Tim Curry’s voice is always easily recognizable. He has been in a truly astonishing array of movies and TV shows, across live-action and animation. Mollystar2 is particularly enamored with his voice, writing, “Tim Curry, without a doubt” when asked which actor has the most distinctive.

The Redditor goes on to say “His voice is almost tactile. During my daily, hours-long travel for my work, I listen to recorded books that he narrates, some of which I don’t even like, just to hear the sound of his voice.” Curry is particularly adept at playing villainous characters. It is also always a delight when he gets the opportunity to show off his singing ability.
