But when U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., balked at its a $1.75 trillion price tag, Senate Democrats temporarily shelved the legislation. Manchin finally agreed to support a much-smaller bill, now called the Inflation Reduction Act, that would raise $739 billion, with $300 billion of that earmarked for deficit reduction over 10 years.
