20 BEST War Games On PS4 To Play In 2022

War games is one of the best video games genre that captivates the horrors of nations clashing with each other, destroying cities and looting whatever is left. From earlier days of PlayStation to PlayStation 4, players have had experienced war games in single player, multiplayer and other settings. While it is always interesting to see different developers and studios present their take on making some of the best PS4 War games, our guide entails the top 20 titles you should play if you’re into war games.

Before reading our listing for the best war games, consider checking out related guides as well:

1. Battlefield 4

battlefield 4
  • Developer: DICE
  • Release Date: October 29, 2013

The kind of online combat seen in Battlefield has a timeless quality to it. When fast-paced infantry combat is combined with explosive vehicular warfare, the resulting clash is one that is high-stakes, suspenseful, and maybe most significantly, varied.

It is easy to get the impression that there is no limit to the satisfying ways in which you may contribute to the war effort when you have access to weapons, gadgets, and upgrades that are specifically designed to generate a wide variety of combat roles.

Since the beginning of the Battlefield series, gamers have been drawn in by the game’s emphasis on varied gameplay, and that trend continues unabated in Battlefield 4. The online multiplayer mode is a tremendous amount of fun.

But these days, Battlefield is about more than just multiplayer, and the single-player narrative in Battlefield 4 also has some thrilling moments to offer players. Although the story’s protagonists and antagonists sometimes display enticing aspects of their personalities, these aspects are overshadowed by the story’s too formulaic interactions and conversation.

The most exciting action takes place during large-scale battles that make full use of the 10 expansive and well planned maps. Richer color saturation makes them more pleasing to look at, whether it be the verdant alpine pastures around a big satellite dish or the flashing neon lights of a seaside city. This applies to both of these settings.

It is possible to gain control of a match via naval superiority; nevertheless, mobility on the water is also a significant factor to take into account. This is something that is obvious to anybody who has ever walked across a vast empty field rather than catching a ride.

Some of these incidents result in considerable change, such as the collapse of a building, while others have a more subtle effect, such as locking cell doors to close off a corridor or raising bollards to obstruct a road. For example, the destruction of a skyscraper results in a large shift.

There are a ton of methods to improve your effectiveness on the battlefield and rack up the points that will enhance your rank and give you access to new content. These include customizing your vehicles and your soldiers.

The single-player campaign, like everything else in the game, has its ups and downs, but unfortunately, there are more downs than there are ups. It comes in handy when you’re trying to make your way to your teammates while battling your way through a hamlet with a ragtag assortment of weapons and the occasional vehicle.

Battlefield 4’s online multiplayer mode is a ton of fun across all platforms, and it is undeniably the finest incentive to either come back to this venerable series or start playing it for the first time. Even if the campaign is moving in the right way, it is still really a sideshow compared to the main event.

Battlefield 4’s multiplayer mode is one of the most exciting experiences available in this or the next generation because it is both expansive and exciting, tough and powerful.

2. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War
  • Developer: Treyarch, Raven Software
  • Release Date: November 13, 2020

It is difficult not to relate Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War to the previous year’s installment, Modern Warfare, as is the case with any yearly gaming series. In terms of the campaign, Cold War performs far better than its predecessor from the previous year, demonstrating that Call of Duty is considerably more successful when it veers toward the fantastical.

In Zombies, Cold War offers a co-op option that is far more popular than Spec Ops in Modern Warfare, despite the fact that it still need some balancing adjustments. Multiplayer, on the other hand, is where Cold War falls short; the experience is unsatisfying as a whole, and this is particularly noticeable in the shadow of Warzone.

The majority of the levels provide you with various alternatives in terms of your strategy for fighting, and some of them even take into consideration mistakes that you make.

Adding to this sensation are the game’s straightforward stealth mechanics. The majority of missions require some degree of stealth, which entails being unseen, depending on quiet takedowns, and then concealing a dead corpse before another player discovers it.

In keeping with other aspects of the Call of Duty series, the level design has both crystal defined goals and spectacular set pieces. You will be encouraged to investigate areas like a faithful recreation of East Berlin as well as Soviet training facilities that are both ingenious and imaginative by the presence of hidden information as well as the odd optional mission.

You will have lots of chances to turn up the volume, but the shooting will be just as intense as it always has been. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the gratifying thud that confirms a kill, whether I’m using a sniper rifle or the minigun on an assault helicopter. It doesn’t matter.

A peculiar glimpse into actual life is provided by Ronald Reagan, who only makes a cameo appearance in a short sequence at the opening of the game and contributes a few voice lines at the game’s conclusion. notwithstanding the undeniable fact that the reproduction of his look and style of talking is very remarkable.

The biggest mistake that Cold War made in terms of its story was that it didn’t make the United States suffer nearly as much as they should have for their imagined problems. Without getting into too much detail, the United States of America is ultimately to blame for the primary and wholly fictitious problem that is at the heart of the marketing for this video game.

The structure of Cold War Zombies is solid, and it is possible that future upgrades may make it even better; but, the chasm that exists between its multiplayer mode and the Warzone ecosystem is too great to be closed by implementing a few balance changes.

Overall, playing Zombies with friends is a fun experience, but the game’s multiplayer mode is a disappointment. As a result, the game’s excellent single-player mode takes on the most of the game’s challenges.

COD series of video games have always had a unique spin to make war games when compared to the Battlefield video games. COD Black Ops Cold War is another excellent title and a great addition to our best war games on PS4 if you are little inclined towards COD games.

3. Battlefield 1

Battlefield 1
  • Developer: DICE
  • Release Date: October 21, 2016

The brutality of World War I is vividly shown in Battlefield 1, which does not spare any time in doing so. The grim beginning of the narrative focuses on the inevitability of passing away as its primary theme. The early 20th century is brilliantly interpreted by EA DICE as a society in the midst of a technological shift, and the cinematic snippets are well produced, even if they are based on fiction. This helps humanize the people who participated in the conflict.

War Stories, the campaign for Battlefield 1, does an excellent job of conveying both the tragedies and the heroics of The Great War. When opposed to other Battlefield narrative modes, this one offers a more concentrated immersion. These new stories are presented in a style similar to that of a non-linear collection, which means that they do not required to be played in any certain sequence.

The portions of War Stories that focus on vehicles provide you an overview of the first generation of tanks and fighter planes, both of which represented significant advancements in military technology during their respective eras. Even though tanks have limited room, a carrier pigeon will accompany you on the journey. This pigeon will prove to be an important passenger at one of the most emotionally moving moments of the mission.

The multiplayer component of Battlefield 1 remains true to the open-space action that the franchise is known for, but it has been expertly adapted to include the weaponry, vehicles, and geography of World War 1. The core of it is called Operations, and it involves one side trying to advance while the other side tries to keep them back in battles that may last for up to an hour.

The excitement of a fight comes not only from racking up the most kills or achieving the greatest kills-to-death ratio, but also from successfully adjusting to shifting conditions in the middle of a fight. This is particularly true for members of teams, who must always be looking for new ways to improve their performance and contribute more effectively.

The quality of a mode is directly proportional to that of the map it is played on, and each of Battlefield 1’s maps is ingenious and engaging in its own unique way. Compared to the several near-symmetrical levels in Battlefield: Hardline, these new areas of operations seem natural and, more importantly, enticing.

You may personalize your online experience by using the powerful and gratifying progression system, which allows you to build a large portion of your arsenal based on the items you purchase with the awards you get for leveling up. Veterans may get a sense of fulfillment from building up their collections of guns, while beginners can get a sense of what it was like to fight thanks to the relative ease of most of the older weapons.

The success of EA and DICE’s first-person shooter Battlefield 1 demonstrates that the First World War is an era that can successfully be reimagined as a gaming setting. It sheds light on how the conclusion of that conflict has impacted our lives while also bringing into focus nations and tribes that do not exist now.

4. Call of Duty: WWII

Call of Duty WWII
  • Developer: Sledgehammer Games
  • Release Date: November 3, 2017

Not only does the long-awaited return of Call of Duty to its World War II origins seem like a welcome to fans, but it also serves as a memorial to the strong connections that can emerge across brothers in arms. This powerful narrative provides a few snippets of insight into the devastation that the Nazi rule of Europe inflicted upon its people, especially German citizens, as seen through the eyes of one American soldier and a few other Allied soldiers.

The plot is significantly strengthened by the inclusion of a supporting cast of characters with well created personas. In addition, they provide you with direct assistance during fight depending on your requirements and how well you are doing. Robert Zussman, being your closest buddy, appropriately takes care of your health pack supplies, while Drew Stiles, being just as helpful as Robert Zussman, makes sure you have an adequate supply of grenades on hand.

In and of itself, combat is not about racing to reach the next goal as quickly as possible. It is necessary to take shelter behind almost every table that has been knocked down and eliminate only a few enemy soldiers in order to gain access to the next cover point.

It is a tale that is accompanied with the perfect amount of sentiment and that is played out both during gunbattles and during periods of time in between. You have the choice of adding to your courageous image by rescuing injured and exposed colleagues or by sparing surrendered Nazis. Either way, your renown for bravery will increase.

The reintroduction to warfare in the middle of the 20th century, which understandably eschews the futuristic technology and superhuman mobility of the most recent Call of Duty games, is most appreciated in the competitive multiplayer mode of World War II.

The action-packed social center that is appropriately called Headquarters is the glue that holds these competitive multiplayer modes together. This bustling meeting location is an enticing venue to hang out and practice in ways that are hard to do with the standard issue multiplayer options. It is set against the background of the Allied-occupied beaches of Normandy.

This newest take on Zombies, like the greatest previous versions of the game, is packed with a variety of various types of carrots that tempt players to keep coming back for more. The confidence that it exhibits in you and your friends that you can make a little bit more progress in the following session is one of the most important aspects of these incentives.

In Zombies, loot crates play a considerably bigger and more practical role, which contributes to the mode’s worth as a compelling spectacle on the same level as Call of Duty: WWII’s other game types. In multiplayer, this function is much smaller and less useful.

Call of Duty: WWII is a resounding victory in terms of its design and execution of powerful elements. The emotion of boarding the troop carrier as it neared the shore struck me with more melancholy than terror since I knew I would live ultimately despite the fact that many of my neighboring comrades in arms would not.

5. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Wolfenstein II The New Colossus

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus maintains a very harsh position on the morality of murdering Nazis and does so quite often throughout the game. Never once does it waver, never once does it question whether or not resorting to violent resistance is the appropriate method to fight back against injustice.

The events of The New Order are immediately followed by those of The New Colossus, and it should come as no surprise that our hero, Blazkowicz, is in a precarious condition.

The remainder of The New Colossus is going to follow the pattern that is established in this very first mission. Because he is confined to a wheelchair and his organs are deteriorating, Blazkowicz has an unusual sense of vulnerability. You wheel yourself gently through Eva’s Hammer’s passageways while shooting with one hand and using the other to aim your gun.

In addition to that, the game is challenging in a more broad sense. It’s likely that you’ll die a lot. It may not seem possible at first, but it is possible to defeat a big robot dog that breathes fire if you have the correct weaponry, strafe well, take cover when necessary, and keep an eye out for health packs and ammunition while you’re on the go.

The majority of missions are divided into rooms, each of which has one or two commanders who are able to summon more help as necessary. You have the option of just shooting your way through waves of adversaries, or you may choose to attempt to eliminate the commanders stealthily before speaking to the rest of the people in the room.

Participating in the far-future technology of the Nazi dictatorship is both exciting and a disgusting representation of their merciless domination of all parts of the earth. The employment of high-powered laser weapons might be thrilling, but the armored machine-men that drop them serve as a grim reminder of the human experiments that took place during and after the conflict.

The majority of the settings in The New Colossus depict the harsh and industrial reality of the Reich, such as the twisted ruins of a post-nuclear New York City. However, there is also the matter of maintaining one’s look, and the Roswell level in particular supplies the missing pieces to the puzzle.

At times, The New Colossus goes too far in its attempt to be poignant, and as a consequence, it conveys its ideas in a way that is too obvious rather than allowing them to speak for themselves. After seeing flashbacks that depict widespread prejudice in the United States when BJ was a youngster, displays of American patriotism, such as a specific speech about liberty and freedom, come out as misplaced.

The New Colossus ensures that you never forget who or what you’re up against or why. The mental and emotional scars that each member of the resistance bears are a stark reminder of the atrocities committed by the Nazi regime. These scars are visible regardless of whether or not they have physical manifestations.

Some players never like the idea of enjoying best war games on PS4 by experiencing the multiplayer aspect of a title. If that is your case then you will love playing Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

6. Battlefield V

Battlefield V
  • Developer: DICE
  • Release Date: November 20, 2018

The Battlefield series has always been built upon a framework of mayhem and grandeur, and Battlefield V is not an exception to this rule. If you play any of the better modes, it is both an overpowering visual experience and a perfect execution of a model that is already known to you.

The European theater of World War II serves as the setting for first-person shooting and vehicle action in huge multiplayer battles in Battlefield V. The game brings the series full circle by returning to the era in which it all started. It is not too different to Battlefield 1, in which each gun has a unique weight and punch that is conveyed powerfully in both sight and sound. This is the case here as well.

When moving across the jumbled landscape of the maps, whether you’re dodging obstacles or rushing for shelter, the movement feels natural and naturalistic. Everyone in the game, regardless of their class, has the ability to bring downed teammates back to life.

This not only motivates players to remain together but also lessens the emotional impact of losing a match when there is no doctor around.

The Attrition system, which covers the modifications made to resource shortages and scouring and impacts practically every element of the game, further emphasizes class roles and collaboration. This system also includes the adjustments made to scavenging. Because you aren’t given a lot of ammunition when you start, the ability of the Support class to hand out ammo pouches becomes quite useful if you manage to survive more than one skirmish.

Despite the fact that the game’s health system is mostly self-healing, your chances of survival are significantly increased if you have a medkit on hand, which can only be given out by Medics.

The Grand Operations mode in Battlefield V is where the game really excels. This mode consists of three successive matches that are connected by small story pieces based on events from World War II. Each round is shown as one day taking place on the same battlefield as the previous round.

In this version of the game, the teams compete against one another to see who can receive reinforcement bonuses for various rounds based on the results of the round before it.

It is the more concentrated and well-executed modes, such as Airborne, Frontlines, and Breakthrough, that are chiefly responsible for the success of Grand Operations.

These game modes are not completely original; Frontlines was included in the downloadable content for Battlefield 1, and it incorporates aspects from both Rush and Conquest. Grand Operations is a variant of Frontlines.

However, the fact that the tools and mechanisms designed around Battlefield V, together with the way that the dynamics of the maps change with each phase, make them an absolute blast to play ensures that they remain popular.

You will accumulate experience points (XP) for a variety of different growth pathways regardless of the gameplay style that you like. There is an overall rank, a class rank, an individual weapon rank, and just for good measure, there is also a separate rank for each tank and aircraft in the game.

In addition to the skins for your weapons, you’ll be able to personalize the look of each class for both the Allies and the Axis. It is the component of the uniform where you may suit yourself with various pieces, and it is only for aesthetic purposes.

There is more to Battlefield V than just its online multiplayer component. War Stories makes a comeback as the single-player component of the game, and its goal this time around is to show a bloody fight in a more serious manner.

At least for the time being, Battlefield V stays relatively true to the successful formula that the Battlefield franchise has developed over the years. The Conquest system and the map roster do not work together very well. Nevertheless, Grand Operations and the other modes included inside it steal the show and provide some of the most memorable experiences that the series has ever made available.

7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered
  • Developer: Raven Software
  • Release Date: November 4, 2016

Where do you define the boundary or line between doing what is right and doing what needs to be done when the conflict might take place at any time, anyplace, or in any circumstance in COD Modern Warfare?

That line is chemical weapons, and it runs across the whole of the campaign for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It is not risky to reach this conclusion; the majority of people are of the opinion that chemical weapons are on an entirely other level of horror.

The game takes commonplace observations and gives them a fresh spin in order to engage the player. These additional touches do contribute to a terrific single-player campaign as well as a great multiplayer mode. However, when Modern Warfare challenges you to think more deeply, it falls short of expectations.

In many respects, Farah serves as the moral compass of Modern Warfare. Everyone you play with, as well as a select few other important people, are involved in the proxy war in Modern Warfare. However, except from that, the regulations are not nearly as clear.

As a result of being drawn into a conflict between Russian terrorists, a separatist organization from Farah’s nation, and freedom fighters, military officers from the United States and the United Kingdom differ on how to continue with the issue in the most effective manner.

A familiar face from the first Modern Warfare, Captain Price is the grizzled badass that spearheads the most of Garrick’s operations. He is certainly a fan favorite and a returning character from the game. The early stages with Price are some of the greatest levels in the game.

These operations may include everything from large-scale, high-octane firefights to a meticulously organized attack on a terrorist stronghold with less than a dozen opponents in all. You use surveillance cameras to guide a lady through a besieged embassy while ensuring that she does not encounter any obstacles.

However, it is a shame that Farah does not have a more significant part to play in this story. While she is a significant component of Alex’s missions and the motivating reason behind most of the plot, you only play as her a few times.

In spite of some apparent inconsistencies with the game’s overarching theme, Modern Warfare’s multiplayer mode is rather good, with a wide range of game modes that cater to a variety of player profiles. The basic, highly configurable toolkit for your selected loadouts has been brought back, and it comes with a variety of bonuses that are designed to accommodate a variety of game types and playstyles.

The Realism mode in Modern Warfare’s multiplayer is undeniably the game’s crowning achievement. It sits between the more traditional Core and Hardcore modes, spanning the gap that separates the two of them. However, Realistic mode does away with the HUD altogether, taking it one step farther than Hardcore by also removing the kill feed in addition to everything else.

The total opposite of TDM 20 is the game Gunfight. It’s a one-life, two-on-two mode where your loadout changes after each round, and the objective is to eliminate both of your opponents using the tools at your disposal before they eliminate you first.

On paper, Spec Ops is a cooperative game in which you and a team of other players fulfill a series of tasks in order to unlock some narrative content. At the beginning of the game, you will be given the option to choose one of numerous roles, each of which has its own unique ultimate power.

However, the flaws of Spec Ops do not take away from the things that Modern Warfare accomplishes particularly effectively. Although not all of the new multiplayer modes are as enjoyable as Gunfight and the Night Vision playlist, Realism mode is an outstanding addition to the roster, and this game’s Night Vision playlist and Gunfight are both energizing highlights.

COD MW may have been released more than a decade ago for a different generation of consoles but the remastered version is without a doubt an amazing addition to our list of the Best PS4 war games you should experience in 2022.

8. Sniper Elite 4

Sniper Elite 4
  • Developer: Rebellion Developments
  • Release Date: 14 February 2017

The act of sniping in video games has always had a predatory undertone to it. The Sniper Elite series has often fallen short, however, in the times in between ecstatic, long-range kills, when it has frequently been a difficult task merely to navigate about in a covert fashion. This is where the game has consistently failed.

The smallest area in Sniper Elite 4 is three times as huge as the largest one seen in the game’s predecessor, and these enormous sandboxes are full to the brim with open-ended goals that you may choose to fulfill in any manner you like and in any order you choose.

You are encouraged to explore each level by the presence of collectibles as well as good sniper spots. The gruesome pleasure of sniping is multiplied by 10 times when you are able to achieve a precise headshot from as far as 400 meters away.

Getting into these productive sniping locations no longer requires the laborious effort it did in the past. There’s a fresh reactivity to hero Karl Fairburne’s mobility that makes it simpler to go about and remain concealed.

Drawing out your Thompson and engaging in hand-to-hand combat with the ravenous nazis is not as cumbersome or irritating as it has been in the past in the event that you are detected and the bullets start flying. The smooth transition from stealth to action and then back again in this game is one of the game’s many strengths.

In scenarios quite similar to this one, the AI demonstrates a significant improvement over its predecessors. They will try to triangulate your position based on the sound of the gunfire, and after they have established that they have your location under control, commanders will instruct their soldiers to overrun you.

If you are looking for a more challenging task from the odd blundering adversary, the “Authentic” difficulty option eliminates all of the helpful assistance and lengthens the course of the campaign by introducing a lengthy learning curve.

In multiplayer, players may choose from a wide variety of game types, including both competitive and cooperative options. The objective of the game Control is for the teams to establish their dominance over a control point that is constantly shifting.

Survival is a far more successful mode since it allows up to four players to cooperate in order to endure progressively difficult waves of foes.

As Rebellion continues to hone its gameplay mechanics and place a larger focus on the game’s long-range shooting, Sniper Elite 4 seems to be a logical evolution for this particular franchise. Even though the game’s stealth and action features are quite basic, playing them is nonetheless consistently interesting and satisfying.

9. This War Of Mine

This War of Mine
  • Developer: 11 bit studios
  • Release Date: November 14, 2014

This War of Mine is a depressingly gloomy version of The Sims that is played in 2.5 dimensions and is depicted in a gorgeous but ominous style of pencil art that is always shifting. You begin with three survivors who have found sanctuary in an abandoned three-story home. Two of the survivors are childhood friends, while the third is a displaced television chef who was just in the wrong place at the wrong moment.

In “This War of Mine,” regret is a real, horrible thing that may be visited upon the people who have survived the war. Characters that feel remorse move more slowly, walk with their heads down, and choose not to do even the simplest of duties because they realize the futility of it all.

Even though the game does not include a tutorial on how to utilize any of its features, it is easy enough to figure out after just a few minutes of playing. During the day, careful preparation of food and shelter is required, and the handy instruments of contemporary life that we all take for granted are either in short supply or need to be constructed from scratch due to the recent disaster.

During the night, additional supplies have to be scavenged from the regions around your location as you hope that no one else had the same idea as you to rob your location.

You are able to travel to a single location each night, and a helpful screen will provide you with information regarding the current situation around the location, rumors you’ve heard, and what might be contained inside. After that, you will be able to search the area for anything that might be of use to you.

Are you interested in taking part in this game? No. Is it a game that should be played by anybody who has a heart that beats? Yes. Yes, with a million yeses. It’s a long-form exercise in empathy, a somber work of art that plugs in the voids left when all we see of war are the headshots.

While most shooter and war games that you will find in our guide are too inclined towards multiplayer aspect or the single player story driven experience; This War of Mine is a completely opposite of it. While imagining a world torn by war, this game proves that players will always prefer a fresh take on story telling.

Considering all that This War of Mine offers, it’d be unfair if we didn’t list in the war games on PS4 games list to play in 2022 and beyond.

10. Verdun

Verdun
  • Developer: M2H, Blackmill Games
  • Release Date: 30 August 2016

Verdun is a risky game since it is a first-person shooter placed during an era of video games history that is more often explored in strategy games. Despite being stalled by the reality of the frequently sluggish pace of the Great War and all the while faltering on its own hurdles, it comes near to conveying the spirit of warfare. However, it does not quite succeed in doing so.

The Frontlines mode takes up the most of your time when playing Verdun. In this part of the battle, both sides take turns attempting to cross “no man’s land” and advance toward the trench held by the other side. It’s all about keeping up your momentum. The game gives you the ability to surge into the battlefield while you are on the attack, even as your opponents are forming defensive formations.

The Frontlines mode places an emphasis on team-based battles. When you load into a match, you are immediately assigned to a team and given a position within that team. Some squads are tasked with conducting reconnaissance, while others are organized as assault squads and contain stations for grenadiers and riflemen.

Verdun is unable to avoid one aspect of the Great War, and that is its inevitable monotony. While you are eagerly waiting for anything to get you out of the trench, there will be periods of time when you will be bored.

Another one of the problems is that there is not enough diversity. The majority of the maps are, as was to be anticipated, somewhat unsightly; they are riddled with craters and lack a significant amount of flora. However, certain fronts are denser with vegetation than others. These fronts have trees that may be used as a backdrop for stacking objects, as well as shrubs and grass that provide a vibrant color pallet.

Despite this, Verdun does sometimes give sparks of creativity, often in the form of terrifying or exciting episodes that break up the monotony. A bullet that was fired from an adversary that was not seen blasts through the air and hits a fellow soldier who is standing very next to you. You get a glimpse of him collapsing into the muck on the periphery of your vision.

You feel yourself falling as your thoughts is racing. Will you switch places and then pop back up to search the horizon for the person who murdered your family?

You jump over the wall and into the middle of no man’s land as soon as you hear the word to attack and overwhelm the opposing defences. Verdun is the opposite of many current shooters since the pace is so slow and methodical; nonetheless, for limited periods of time, it manages to be more engaging than many of its competitors.

11. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2

The campaign in The Division 2 is far more engaging than the one in the first game, thanks to the removal of unnecessary side objectives and the enhancement of open-world optional pursuits. Its endgame is also a sublimely different offering compared to what came before it, with levels being remixed, the environment seeming more alive, and the challenge of side activities being ramped up to keep you playing until the very end.

The adversaries are not as bullet-spongy as they were in the original game, and some of the elite foes, whose armour may be removed by gunfire, are really enjoyable to battle. It’s a wonderful shooter for the most part, but there are some issues with the artificial intelligence, such as when an adversary gets stuck in one place or spends so much time climbing about that you can simply take them out.

Each of the major campaign missions recreates a realistic setting and atmosphere. In light of the fact that no one truly creates linear third-person shooter games these days, the ones included here are standalone components of a large open world looter game. It is easy to forget what these kind of levels feel like when they are built effectively, but they can be really challenging.

Washington, District of Columbia, isn’t as easily recognized as New York Area was in the original game, save a few prominent monuments. This is coming from someone who has never been to the city in real life. However, in contrast to the world of the original game, this one has a palpably more vibrant atmosphere, with a large number of neutral non-player characters engaging in combat alongside the many hostile organizations.

When you enter a fight in the middle of it and manage to swing the tide in your side’s favor by sneaking up on unsuspecting foes and shooting them in the back while they are focused on your teammates, it may be an exhilarating experience.

The majority of the activities that are scattered over DC’s map are really fun to participate in, especially control locations, which you free from the hands of hostile groups with the assistance of AI allies.

The latter games are far less difficult to play than the first one. During the course of the campaign, you gain access to new talents at a rapid rate. You can also open up variations for them early on using the game’s numerous SHD Tech points rather than needing to upgrade separate wings of your base as you did in The Division 1, which allows you to open up variants for them earlier.

Like it or not, Tom Clancy’s series of videos games have always been some of the top war games on PS4 and The Division 2 is a top contender in our list when it comes to competing other series of video games from this brand.

12. The Division

Tom Clancy’s The Division
  • Developer: Massive Entertainment
  • Release Date: 8 March 2016

Tom Clancy’s The Division is a game that doesn’t make it too difficult to find positive things to say about it, particularly as it unfolds in its powerful early hours. The open area is desolate and fails to engage the player, combat quickly becomes weighed down with the same waves of strolling bullet sponges, and protagonist growth is clumsily fragmented in ways that are cumbersome.

There are several visually striking scenes in “The Division,” ranging from the lovely Christmas lights in Chelsea to the foreboding lack of illumination in Times Square. However, they are successful in making the city itself the most engaging character in the ensemble despite the fact that they are never followed up on in any substantial manner.

Because of this, there are large areas of the city that are devoid of significant events and where almost nothing takes place. Enemy encounters are spread out around the city with very less intensity.

From the cover-and-shoot gameplay of Gears of War, the gunplay model takes a few steps toward the mechanical realism of most Tom Clancy-branded games, but not too many at all.

The intensity of the activity and the requirements are both quite high. These passages are the most exciting parts of The Division, particularly when played with a team of four with skill loadouts that compliment one another.

When it comes down to it, the anticipation of moments like this ends up being the primary motivation to keep playing through the monotony of The Division’s open universe. You will be relieved to know that you can quickly and effortlessly matchmake and fast travel to these jewels.

The difficulty is that there are many different methods to make progress, but they are all quite fragmented. Going through the Dark Zone is the safest and most dependable method to get awesome stuff. In this section of The Division’s player vs player and player versus environment gameplay, everyone is competing for their own survival. When you are in a situation like this, turning your back on a friend or ally is a good way to end up dead.

There are several plainly solid concepts both in battle and outside of it, the most notable of which is the suspenseful and hazardous Dark Zone. However, they are not linked neatly enough or distributed equally enough to produce a continuous loop that is continually engaging throughout.

In the end, The Division’s excessively crowded and conflicting design principles result in a bland mush that never quite comes together, which bury the game’s strongest elements.

13. Valiant Hearts: The Great War

Valiant Hearts The Great War
  • Developer: Ubisoft Montpellier
  • Release Date: 25 June 2014

Valiant Hearts: The Great War is without a doubt one of the most emotionally impactful and nuanced war-themed video games that has ever been made available. The game, which takes place during World War I, focuses less on the bigger historical aspects and political reality of the catastrophic fight and more on the psychological hardships of its individuals.

The beginning of the game establishes that this will not be a straightforward battle between good and evil. Karl is a German citizen who now resides in France with his wife, where they just welcomed their baby son. The outbreak of war results in Karl being taken away from his family and deported to Germany, where he is obligated to enlist in the military and contribute to the war effort.

During the course of the game, you will assume the roles of both Emile and Karl, as well as Anna, a nurse from Belgium, and Freddie, an American who joins the French army. In addition, you will play the role of Anna.

Although there is a significant amount of mortality in Valiant Hearts, there is surprisingly little actual physical violence. There will be times when you have to sneak up behind an enemy soldier and attack him from behind, and there will also be times when you have to take down many aircraft in a row. On the other hand, the majority of your time is spent assisting others rather than working against them.

It is natural to have a sense of hopelessness while repeatedly storming into combat while seeing large numbers of men on both sides being killed or wounded by artillery and machine gun fire. Things become progressively worse as the game and the war go on, and a late-game level that takes place during the fruitless Nivelle Offensive is especially dreadful.

Although the gameplay is straightforward, Valiant Hearts does an excellent job of putting you in a wide variety of situations. For example, you may be required to prepare a meal for a high-ranking officer or engage in a boss battle against a zeppelin while wielding a pipe organ as a weapon. Both of these tasks are admirable.

The narrative of the game isn’t always as unified as it should be over its whole. There is a startling contrast between the voice with a British accent that speaks for Emile during the cutscenes that take place between levels and the voice that has a French accent that we hear Emile use during gameplay.

However, they are relatively minor flaws in an otherwise stunningly gorgeous game that skillfully transitions between happy and sad moments throughout the experience. All of them, in the end, do not avoid bringing up the point that “great” is just about the worst possible adjective to use to any war.

Similar to This War of Mine, Valiant Hearts The Great War tells a story of defense and helping others instead of fighting enemies. This is still one of the best war games on PS4 by any stretch but it is also the one where you will do less fighting and more saving.

14. Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2
  • Developer: CI Games
  • Release Date: 4 June 2021

When compared to its predecessor, the shooting game Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is a significant improvement. The predecessor had awful artificial intelligence, ridiculous bullet mechanics, and a high degree of difficulty overall. However, this time around, the game’s creator, City Interactive, has fixed almost all of the problematic areas that caused the last game to fail almost as often as it succeeded.

The three-part campaign will take up the most of your time when playing Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, so plan accordingly. A well-written and well-acted narrative, together with authentic-looking graphics and animations driven by the CryEngine 3, give the game a terrific atmosphere that is reminiscent of a great action movie.

Not everything in Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is top-notch, but the presentation is definitely one of the highlights. In the second installment in the series, almost every facet of the previous game has been improved. The enemy AI has significantly improved its level of cunning.

Before, bad men would usually just run about aimlessly and stand still while they were shot at, but now they know to duck for cover as soon as they hear gunfire.

Shooting is also a lot more fun, regardless of whether you play with a gamepad or a configuration consisting of a mouse and a keyboard. The physics in this situation are spot on. As a consequence of this, it is much simpler to judge shots on your own without having to depend on the little red dot that indicates the position of the shot that is provided at the lesser difficulty levels.

The gameplay now places a greater emphasis on sneaking about than shooting. The previous game’s more straightforward action sequences have been removed in favor of a strategy that places a greater emphasis on sniping.

Having said that, there are a few problems with it. The most significant drawback is the checkpoint system, which only sometimes backs up your progress. The game will not save your progress until you have successfully destroyed significant portions of a level, such as a structure.

It is to your advantage because the mission gives you a lot of intense action to go through, as well as a shooting range where you may hone your abilities by engaging in free-for-all slaughter of your enemies.

The single-player campaign of Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is both fulfilling and amusing because to the game’s narrative and stealth elements. The painfully long distances between checkpoints and the lack of multiplayer options are both letdowns, but overall, this is a worthwhile experience for anyone who like sniping or war-themed video games.

15. World of Tanks

World of Tanks

Because the game’s creator has to generate money from the free client, free-to-play games often have to be packed with microtransactions. This ensures a potentially healthy income stream, but it often results in matches that are not evenly matched. And this, by a strange twist of fate, also happens to be a significant issue with World of Tanks.

The beautiful thing about World of Tanks is that it can be played in a number of different ways since there are so many different kinds of vehicles to choose from. Heavy Tanks may be ponderous, but they pack a significant punch. Light Tanks, on the other hand, are agile and great for flanking, but they have very little armor.

If you’re the kind of player who like to fire shots from a distance, artillery is the better choice for you. On the other hand, if you want to wreak havoc on the armor of your opponents, tank destroyers are the ideal choice for you.

There is a selection of over one hundred different vehicles, ranging from German Tigers to American Shermans to Soviet tanks. In addition to this, each tank has the potential to be improved via the use of the primary money of the game, Silver, as well as Experience points, which allow for the acquisition of stronger guns, armor, and maneuverability.

Alternately, the cash may be swapped for Silver, which is generally acquired via the process of competing in matches. However, the experience points obtained during matches may be exchanged for free experience points. In contrast to conventional XP, which can only be used in the tank in which it was earned, this one may be put to use in any tank.

There are four distinct sorts of matches in World of Tanks, but they all focus around either seizing an enemy base or eliminating the other team. World of Tanks doesn’t actually have a lot of variety in terms of the game modes it offers. It would have been good to have several other modes, especially ones that were more thrilling.

World of Tanks has a high level of expectation placed upon its players, even before they begin playing the game. It places an overwhelming number of menus, dials, and buttons in front of you and expects you to be completely familiar with all of them.

16. Insurgency: Sandstorm

Insurgency Sandstorm
  • Developer: New World Interactive
  • Release Date: September 29, 2021

In a world that is saturated with first-person shooter games and a market that is driven by annual releases with budgets in the millions of dollars, titles like Call of Duty and Battlefield, you now have to find a way to differentiate yourself from the competition.

Insurgency: Sandstorm, developed by New World Interactive, has successfully accomplished this objective. Every tick of the clock demonstrates the utter savagery that is inherent in battle, and it is impossible to look away.

To get started, you may make your own avatar, which can then be customized with a variety of different clothes, including new helmets, shoes, camo style, and so on. All of these may be acquired via gameplay, either by progressing through levels or by purchasing in-game cash to access further content. To our great good fortune, this location lacks any instances of microtransactions.

In addition, when you first spawn in, you will be required to choose both your class and your loadout, and it is at this time that you will have a total of 20 points to spend.

Sandstorm is a difficult encounter, so you’ll need every point you can earn. In addition, you’ll have to choose one of eight different jobs for your team, each of which comes with its own set of advantages that will help you win.

To achieve success, you and every other member of your team will need to collaborate, and clear and effective communication is essential to do so. This may be done via a range of pre-set sentences that you can pick in order to notify your team, or it can be done through a headset, as you would imagine.

You’ll spend the whole game crammed into small spaces, squeezing your way through crowds of adversaries to reach checkpoints, and second-guessing every action you do in order to stay alive long enough to play another round.

The level of violence in the first-person shooter known as Insurgency: Sandstorm is very shocking. Insurgency has a good aesthetic to it, not an incredible one, but a good one nevertheless. Some of the textures have an antique look to them, and the lighting that is applied to the character avatars does not match the lighting that is applied to their surroundings.

The firearms, on the other hand, have a great appearance, and there is undeniably more than sufficient detail in them to satiate even the most ardent of gun fans.

The experience of playing Insurgency: Sandstorm is one that is totally immersive. The level designs are amazing, and the gameplay, despite its lack of complexity, is carried out well. In addition to the exceptional quality of the sound design, another outstanding element is the extent to which characters and their loadouts may be customized.

17. War Thunder

War Thunder
  • Developer: Gaijin Entertainment
  • Release Date: November 1, 2012

War Thunder seems very much like a grand and bombastic World War II film that does everything except chant slogans. There were dozens upon dozens of aircraft and tanks contributed by each of the five primary countries that battled for freedom or fascism during World War II.

When down to its component parts, the massively multiplayer online battle arena game War Thunder is really rather straightforward. The fact that the game may be downloaded at no cost at all is perhaps the most notable aspect of this offering.

You can buy in-game cash so that you can buy cars and skill improvements, but you don’t need to if you play the game enough since you can earn such perks just by playing.

When it comes to aerial combat, a trio of game difficulty settings makes it possible for players of all skill levels, from casual shooters to more experienced simmers, to find an experience that suits them. Because of conveniences such as beginning aerial battle in the middle of a flight and providing infinite ammunition both in the air and on the ground, playing in an arcade is the simplest method to participate in the game.

The Realistic and Simulator settings push the game farther into the realm of flight simulation, making the air combat more difficult than ever before. In such location, you are required to approach things from a more strategic standpoint. The physics are considerably more precise, which truly highlights the differences between the different types of aircraft.

Patience is a virtue that will serve you well in the Realistic and Simulator modes of play when you are merely attempting to get an aerial combat battle started. Because there are fewer people participating in this event, simply setting up a game may often take a significant amount of time.

The tank fighting in War Thunder is more standard regardless of the difficulty level you choose. Also, the tanks themselves are formidable.

When flying or driving, the controls are quite responsive. The controller that comes with the PS4 is more than sufficient, and the only times it falls short is in a few very particular situations. For instance, when you are asked to eliminate enemy fighters who are pestering friendly aircraft while you are on bombing runs.

War Thunder’s user interface is identical on both the PS4 and the PC version of the game since the game was designed from the ground up to be played using just a computer mouse and keyboard. This presents quite a few difficulties on the PlayStation 4 (PS4).

War Thunder is an expansive World War II simulation that features furious warfare that allows players to get completely immersed in the action. In addition, there are a huge variety of vehicles, both easy and severe difficulty levels, and a wide variety of upgrade pathways for players to immerse themselves in.

18. Bomber Crew

bomber crew
  • Developer: Runner Duck
  • Release Date: July 10, 2018

Bomber Crew may have a childlike appearance, but what lies underneath is a realistic simulation of World War II aircraft combat that places an emphasis on being historically accurate. Its fast-paced, real-time action differentiates it from other ship simulators, and it offers a wide variety of engaging alternatives for overcoming the game’s challenging stages.

You are placed in control of a vehicle in Bomber Crew, which you are responsible for staffing and managing while it is on missions. The primary reason for this is because there is no opportunity to halt and issue commands; thus, the difficulty is in successfully completing all of the tasks required of a bomber crew.

It demands precise coordination since you can’t drop your bombs until you open the bay doors, but if you open them too soon, it will slow down your bomber and waste valuable fuel.

Certain prerequisites must be met in order to successfully finish some of the greatest missions. The explosion of the Grand Slam is so big that it forces you to bomb from a much greater height than you would normally. Most bombs may be dropped at lower altitudes.

The game Bomber Crew also includes several other goals in the mix. The majority of these optional objectives involve taking reconnaissance shots, but I’ve also taken out opposing aces and incoming guided bombs and missiles.

You shouldn’t expect Bomber Crew to take it easy on you. After completing the training missions, the difficulty will significantly increase, and when you first attempt some of the tasks, they will seem to be impossible.

The higher-level missions are terrifying since the slightest error may end the lives of your crew. If you have a crash, you will need to start the mission again, rebuild your bomber, and go through the first half of what can be a challenging 20-minute mission. Doing all of this many times in a row may be quite aggravating.

Bomber Crew is an engaging and comprehensive management simulation game with a lovely art style. This design helps to balance out the game’s sometimes severe difficulty, which comes from the fact that you have to maintain your crew alive while still attempting to strike a target in real time. The frustrations of trial and error are often worth it when they lead to a gratifying upgrading cycle.

19. Sudden Strike 4

Sudden Strike 4
  • Developer: Kite Games
  • Release Date: August 15, 2017

The action takes place during World War II, and you may choose from one of three campaigns, each of which has seven objectives. There is a campaign being waged by the Germans, one by the Russians, and one by the Allies. Each has tasks that are based on real-life activities, and some of the missions from different campaigns may overlap with one another. For example, one campaign may charge you with capturing a site, while another may ask you to defend it.

There is no base building in Sudden Strike 4, in contrast to other real-time strategy games that you might be used to playing. Instead, you begin each mission with a predetermined number of units, and you have the opportunity to gain reinforcements at specific points during the course of each mission.

If you are caught in a really vicious ambush, you may kiss your prospects of winning goodbye since you simply won’t have the resources necessary to compete. The most important thing right now is to employ your troops strategically, and each different kind of unit has its own set of advantages.

Using the radial menu on R2, you are able to provide precise directions to troops. These instructions will let you to do things like popping your head out of the tank for a greater increase in sight distance or having soldiers stand up or lie prone on the ground.

The ability to save at any moment provides you with a safety net in the event that you do make a mistake with the controls or, more likely, merely a mistake with your strategy. In contrast to games like Command & Conquer, in which you may outnumber your foes and win easily, Sudden Strike 4 plays more like a puzzle than a traditional strategy game.

It is a game in which there is a location that is less well defended that you need to identify and assault, or a more effective sequence to go through the assignment in.

The visual presentation of the game is satisfying to the eye as your army marches over fields, felling trees and blowing stuff up in the process. Unfortunately, the game may have stuttering from time to time; nevertheless, this issue is far from persistent. The loading times are sometimes a little bit too lengthy.

The target demographic for Sudden Strike 4 is a specific subset of gamers that like this kind of video game but don’t have access to it on their personal computers (PCs). Those players who have the patience and finesse to take on the most challenging missions will be rewarded for their efforts thanks to the strategic gameplay and the nearly puzzle-like answers that are necessary to complete each task.

20. Enlisted

Enlisted
  • Developer: Darkflow Software
  • Release Date: March 2, 2021

Enlisted is the newest game to come from Darkflow Software. It uses the innovative notion of having a minimal number of player slots, but then places each player in a team with AI equivalents.

Regarding the mobility of the soldiers in this game, I really do not have enough negative things to say about it. Put aside the problems that come with playing a free-to-play game that is heavy on microtransactions. There are opportunities for pleasure here and there.

In Enlisted, you’ll engage in warfare with soldiers, tanks, and planes, among other types of conflict. Nothing about it is positive. There are many maps available for each of the active campaigns, however none of them really stand out.

The most enjoyable aspects of Enlisted are uniformly subpar in quality. The worst aspects of it are awful to say the least. The music is finely composed, but it’s just your typical stuff from World War 2 and the  war game that you may or may not like.
