Take a Look at the All-New Volkswagen ID.7 Electric Sedan appeared on cars.usnews.com by US News & World Report.

This week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Volkswagen will reveal its newest all-electric vehicle, the ID.7. This is the sixth EV in Volkwagen’s lineup, following on the heels of the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.6, and ID.Buzz. With 2026 on the horizon, the German brand is on track to meet its stated goal to debut 10 new EVs in the next three years. Its sibling company Audi is matching VW’s zeal for EVs, too, recently committing to only launching electric vehicles by 2026 and phasing out internal combustion models by 2033.

Originally presented as the ID.Aero concept in China last summer, the all-electric sedan fills the hole the discontinuation of the Passat sedan left behind. In VW’s quest to electrify its models, the ID.7 is coming out swinging with an estimated 700 kilometer (435 miles) of range and a slew of flashy technology amenities designed to impress. However, the most striking, in-your-face feature of this debut ID.7 at CES is its fancy paint job.

Covered in “smart camouflage” to obscure the design details until the official reveal later this year, the ID.7 looks like a colorful, rolling QR code. VW says the finish comprises “unique technology and multi-layered paintwork” for the effect, which interactively illuminates the car. Using at least 40 layers of paint, 22 areas of the CES ID.7 are electrified and each lighted piece can be controlled separately. Even better, the electroluminescent light effects can illuminate in rhythm with a sound system.

Luckily, this unique model won’t take to the road, because that would be one seriously distracting vehicle.

Inside, Volkswagen added enhanced features like an augmented reality head-up display and illuminated touch sliders to control the climate and other functions. There’s a special focus on the ID.7’s digital vents, which control airflow throughout the cabin for consistent cooling and heating. Plus, the car detects the proximity of the key fob and starts heating or cooling the cabin as desired.

These functions are tied to the ID.7’s voice controls, so if the driver says “Hello Volkswagen, my hands are cold,” the steering wheel heater activates while warm air is aimed toward the driver’s hand positions.

VW plans to distribute the new ID.7 sedan in China, Europe and North America, with a more formal debut later this year.
