Lindsay Kennedy loves to eat and has an appreciation for fine foods.
As the new owner of Dolcetto Cheese and Specialty Goods at 33041 Grand River Ave. in downtown Farmington, formerly The Cheese Lady, she hopes to share that love with the community.
“I’m one of those people who really hopes they haven’t found their favorite food yet,” she said. “I want to just eat everything. There’s so much to learn and so many good things to eat.”
Fans of The Cheese Lady, which has several shops in Michigan, will still be able to find many of their favorite products at Dolcetto. Kennedy said she’s more interested in adding items than taking ones away.
Kennedy said she declined to take The Cheese Lady name for multiple reasons, one being that an independent store has more freedom with its offerings.
“I think our community can be taken much better care of by an independent shop,” she said.
New items include vegan cheese making kits, specialty cookies and a wider wine selection. Kennedy, who spent eight years working for Simply Wine in Northville, also started a “Perfect Bite Club” for members to try a new wine, cheese and food pairing each month.

This month’s trio is a smoked salmon jerky, fromage and a zinfandel wine.
“I really love obscure wines,” Kennedy said. “There are plenty of places where you can get two buck chuck or a Napa cab. I don’t want to sell that. I want to sell the cool, unique things you’re not going to get everywhere else.”
Kennedy plans to introduce shoppers at Dolcetto to foods, wines and experiences they can’t get anywhere else.
“If you’re trying to make a recipe and there’s that special ingredient you can’t find, call me up,” she said. “I’ll try to find it. I want to make sure you have access to it.”
