Eyes Closed is out on 24 March 24th and Sheeran has posted a clip of a piano version of the song and a video of him playing it on acoustic guitar.
Following recent upheavals including the recent illness of his wife Cherry Seaborn, who discovered she had a tumour while she was pregnant, and the death of his friend, music producer Jamal Edwards, Sheeran has described his fifth album as “opening the trapdoor into my soul”.
– (Subtract) is released on 5 May and was produced and co-written by Aaron Dessner of The National, who has previously worked with Taylor Swift and Mumford & Sons.
“As an artist I didn’t feel like I could credibly put a body of work into the world that didn’t accurately represent where I am and how I need to express myself at this point in my life,” he said.
“This album is purely that. It’s opening the trapdoor into my soul. For the first time I’m not trying to craft an album people will like, I’m merely putting something out that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life.”
