World No 8 Holger Rune reveals Serena Williams‘ “clean strokes” was something he immediately noticed and loved during their practice session. In an interview with Gio Journal, Rune was asked to pick a great women’s tennis champion that would be the hardest to play against.
Rune suggested that due to his respect for female tennis players, he didn’t want to answer the question. “The competition would be unfair so I cannot answer this question. I have practiced with Serena. Love her clean strokes,” Rune told Gio Journal.
Williams seems to be retired for good
It has been seven months since Williams ended her pro tennis career at the US Open. In mid-February, Williams admitted there were periods since retiring when she felt tempted to return to tennis.
“I for sure feel more at peace now. It’s interesting. I think I feel torn because I’m still able to play at a very, very, very high level. With that being said, I always wanted to leave the game playing at a very high level. But it’s hard because it’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, I could still play, and I could still do all that stuff.’
But I’m inch by inch leaning away, inch by inch embracing it,” Williams told E! News. Occasionally, Williams plays tennis. After one of her hits, Williams felt there was no reason for her not to be playing tennis again. “Actually, I did play the other day, and it’s just like, ‘There’s no way I shouldn’t be playing professional tennis.
Like, there’s literally no excuse.’ But I mean, I guess there is an excuse, right? It’s hard because when I’m playing I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m pretty good at this. I can continue to do this,’ which not a lot of people can say,” Williams said.
Earlier this year, Williams’ dad Richard revealed that he wanted his daughter to play in at least two more Grand Slams. But for now, Williams is staying retired.
