With Victor Wembanyama expected to go first overall to the San Antonio Spurs, the Charlotte Hornets could be narrowing in on two players with the No. 2 pick. And after both Alabama forward Brandon Miller and G League Ignite guard Scoot Henderson visited the Hornets previously, Charlotte will have both players in for workouts and interviews on Monday before making its choice, according to ESPN.

Both players are angling to go second in the draft, and will audition for outgoing Hornets owner Michael Jordan ahead of Thursday’s draft. ESPN wrote that, “Miller remains the front-runner to go No. 2, but Henderson had a strong workout and meeting with Hornets officials last week, sources told ESPN.” ESPN wrote that Jordan would be the final decision-maker until the new ownership group is approved by the league’s board of governors, a process expected to stretch weeks beyond the draft.

The No. 4 small forward and No. 14 player in the country out of high school, Miller ranked as college basketball’s best freshman this past year. He finished as a second-team All-American, averaging 18.8 points and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 38.4% from 3 for an Alabama team that went 31-6 and won the SEC regular season and tournament titles.

Ultimately, Alabama’s season was cut short by a tough San Diego State team in the Sweet 16, with the Aztecs reaching the national championship game.

Henderson ranked as the No. 2 point guard and No. 13 player in the nation but elected to go the G League route rather than play in college. Henderson didn’t exactly hurt his NBA Draft stock by doing so, as he put up 17.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game for Ignite.

Some analysts have debated the fit of Henderson next to LaMelo Ball as both players profile as primary ball-handlers. But it’s unclear if the Hornets feel the same way; if anything, the playoffs have consistently shown the need for multiple creators. Even so, the vision of Miller next to Ball is perhaps a bit clearer, as Miller won’t need the ball in his hands to be effective. He profiles more as a big shooter and secondary or tertiary creator.

Adam Finkelstein, 247Sports director of scouting, wrote that Miller has some special traits as a bigger wing.

“Miller undoubtedly has to get much stronger, and hopefully a bit more explosive in the process. He needs to clean up his turnovers, be more decisive getting to his spots as a creator, and put more pressure on the rim as a finisher,” Finkelstein wrote. “But his combination of wing size and shot-making is rare. Add that to his developing playmaking potential and rapid rate of improvement within the last two years, and it is downright special.”
