Bad Bunny Drops Out of Spider-Man Spin-Off El Muerto After Sony Removes Movie from Release Schedule – FandomWire appeared on fandomwire.com by FandomWire.
One Take News has learned from several sources that Bad Bunny won’t be appearing in El Muerto anymore, which is yet another roadblock for the film. According to sources, despite the musician’s departure, there are presently no plans to replace the character or cancel the film, though the writer’s strike may alter those plans. Additionally, it’s unclear whether Bad Bunny will continue to serve as an executive producer or not.
Sony announced El Muerto, a new spin-off for their enormously popular Spider-Man franchise, in April 2022. Muerto, also known as Juan-Carlos Sanchez, is a member of a lineage of luchadors that possess a unique mask that gives them superhuman strength as well as other abilities. Bad Bunny was earlier set to play the titular role.

Why did Bad Bunny back out from El Muerto?
Being the biggest musician in the world and having commitments to both the WWE and touring, Bad Bunny’s calendar is too full to allow for the making of a major blockbuster movie. The filming date was also postponed by the writer’s strike. It’s not surprising that he is no longer involved when you combine that with rumors that the celebrity ruffled some Sony feathers.
For those who are unaware, Bad Bunny is the sole cause behind the creation of El Muerto. Sony executives wanted to quickly develop another project around Bad Bunny after seeing him perform in Bullet Train. They finally settled on the obscure Spider-Man character after extensive searching.
El Muerto is as obscure as it gets in Marvel comics. Only two Spider-Man comics have featured the character, and nowhere else. Although El Muerto’s real name is Juan-Carlos Sánchez, many wrestlers who use the magical mask as a form of protection have adopted the moniker.

El Muerto was set to release early next year
El Muerto, the Spider-Man spinoff, which was set to star Bad Bunny and was hailed as the first live-action superhero movie to feature a Latino actor, was scheduled for release on January 12, 2024. However, according to a revelation from Giant Freakin Robot, Sony has secretly deleted it from the 2024 calendar. Although this update has put the project in a bind, it doesn’t necessarily imply that the movie isn’t occurring at all.
The fans of the venerable superhero have been on a high ever since the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home in December 2021 as their favorite Spideys have been dropping some surprises time and time again. The world has been blown away by Sony’s Spider-Verse, which also received an Oscar nomination as if that weren’t enough. But it appears that an obstacle has suddenly appeared, necessitating a break for the high. Since Sony has secretly removed El Muerto from their release schedule, fans are now worried about the movie’s future.
