Zuppi to report to pope in view of further steps – Vatican – English appeared on www.ansa.it by ANSA.it.
(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 30 – President of the Italian Bishops’
Conference and Archbishop of Bologna Cardinal Matteo Zuppi is to
report to Pope Francis on the outcome of his two-day peace
mission to Moscow on Wednesday and Thursday with a view to
taking further steps, the Vatican said on Friday.
“The results of the visit will be brought to the knowledge of
the Holy Father, with a view to further steps to be taken, both
at the humanitarian level and in the search for paths to peace,”
said the Holy See.
On Tuesday the Vatican issued a statement announcing the papal
envoy’s mission, the main aim of which was to “encourage
gestures of humanity, which can contribute to fostering a
solution to the current tragic situation and find possible ways
to achieve a just peace”.
During his time in the Russian capital Zuppi met with Moscow’s
ombudswoman for children’s rights Maria Lvova-Belova, President
Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov and
Patriarch Kirill, among others.
The mission came on the heels of a similar visit to Kyiv in
early June, when Zuppi met with representatives of the civil and
religious authorities and with Ukrainian President Volodymyr
Zelensky. (ANSA).
