Baldur’s Gate 3 PS5 Version is Delayed, PC Version Moved to Avoid Starfield Clash – FandomWire appeared on fandomwire.com by FandomWire.
Good news for PC users who are excited for the release of Baldur’s Gate 3. According to developer, Larian Studios, the PC version is set to release three weeks earlier than anticipated. The previous release date for this title was announced as 31st August but is now due to release on 3rd August.
However, there is bad news for PlayStation fans as the PS5 version of this title has been pushed back for a release on 6th September. That date might seem familiar for video game fans, as that is the date that Microsoft are due to launch their big Xbox exclusive, Starfield. Coincidence? We think not.
In a recent Blog entry and press release Larian studios stated that they are releasing Baldur’s Gate 3;
“in the order of platform readiness.”
And this is why it is being released for PC firstly. Additionally, they stated that it was being released;
“at a time where you’ll have more time to play it.”
We can only assume that this is a clear reference to the upcoming title Starfield and that this title is expected to take up a lot PC gamers devoted time.
Baldur’s Gate 3 – What we Know About the PS5 Release
Larian Studios stated that with the PS5 Edition of Baldur’s Gate 3, they need more time to get the game running at 60fps and rather than comprising on this, they are happy to delay until such time as the game is ready to go. A spokesperson for the studio had this to say;
“Baldur’s Gate 3 is targeting 60 frames per second and we’re close to achieving that on the platform but need a bit more extra time. We don’t want to compromise on quality, and feel it would be a shame to downscale to 30fps or make other compromises to hit an arbitrary date.”
And followed up with;
“We understand that folks may be disappointed with this but we’re close enough to reaching new heights for RPGs on the system that the benefits of a short delay outweigh the downsides of rushing the PS5 release and having to downscale.”
Aside from the delay on the PS5 release, Larian also discussed the possibility of the title appearing for the Xbox. The technical limitations of the Series S however seem to proving a stumbling block on this moving forward but they did remain ‘optimistic’ about having the game on the Xbox Series X.
Larian Studios are due to release more details of Baldur’s Gate 3 at the upcoming event, Panel from Hell: Release Showcase on 7th July and from there we hope to have some more news that we can share with you.
