Schiff slammed by GOP opponent for supporting ‘criminal culture’ in California appeared on www.washingtonexaminer.com by Jack Birle.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) was slammed by one of his Republican opponents in the 2024 California Senate race for supporting “criminal culture” in the Golden State.

Eric Early, a Republican seeking the Senate seat currently occupied by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), criticized Schiff for ignoring crime in his own Los Angeles-area congressional district to Fox News.

“There is no punishment for these people who are doing the smash-and-grabs, zero,” Early told the outlet, “and Adam Schiff has not said a word against it.

“Our district attorney, who Adam Schiff supports, refuses to charge them with felony theft or burglary. So, they all know they can get away with this. And the fact that Adam Schiff has not said a word about it is further confirmation about how he supports this criminal culture out here,” Early continued.

Early also blamed crime incidents on a lack of leadership in California, with Schiff being one of the leaders he alleges is not working to fix the crisis.

“There’s a complete vacuum of leadership in this entire state of California, and Adam Schiff is one of the members of the vacuum class,” Early told the outlet.

The California Senate race is expected to be one of the fiercest intra-party Senate campaigns of the 2024 cycle, with Schiff and Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) as the clear front-runners. Because of California’s primary system, the top two candidates in the March 2024 primary, regardless of party, are the only ones who advance to the general election in November 2024, meaning a Republican, like Early, has a good shot of being excluded from the general election.

Current polling shows two Southern California Democrats, Schiff, and Porter, likely to advance to the general election, but a strong base of undecided voters still in the mix. A July poll from the Public Policy Institute of California shows Porter leading the field with 19%, followed by Schiff with 16%, Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) in third place with 13%, and Early in fourth place with 6%.
