Papal Delegate Apprises Pope Of Current Status | Kochi News – Times of India appeared on timesofindia.indiatimes.com by TNN.
Vasil had held discussions with various groups in the archdiocese and had given the required guidelines, the statement said.
“The Pope has asked him to stand firm on the decisions taken in the light of the directives given by the Pope and the dicastery for eastern churches. Archbishop Vasil has also given a detailed report on the crisis in the archdiocese to cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, the prefect of the dicastery. The pontifical delegate has informed that he would continue his mission until the execution of the decision of the Pope and the Syro Malabar Church synod on the uniform mode of mass,” the Church said.
Justice Kurian Joseph suggests solutions
Meanwhile, former Supreme Court judge Justice Kurian Joseph has written a letter to the synod and priests suggesting options for resolving the crisis.
He has suggested that giving the priests an option to select mass facing the people alongside the uniform mass could be ideal. He has suggested that it can be made mandatory to conduct at least one mass in the uniform mode on Sundays and it can be made compulsory to conduct at least one mass every day in the uniform mode at churches.
He has also suggested that bishops can be given an option to conduct the mass depending on the situation prevailing at the church where they visit.
Justice Joseph said that it was true that the Pope recognized the decision taken by the Syro Malabar Church on the style of mass. He, however, added that in the light of facing difficulty in implementing the uniform mode, if the Church makes new suggestions, then there is no doubt that the Pope will accept it with an open heart.
Meanwhile, the bishops attending the synod of the Syro Malabar Church on Thursday urged priests and laity to inform the Holy See about the willingness to implement the uniform mass at least in stages. The synod has formed a nine-member committee of bishops to hold discussions on the matter. The synod has urged the priests to begin gradually implementing the uniform mass at the basilica, pilgrim centres, houses of religious orders etc.
