Members of the Jewish community gathered together in Palm Beach Gardens to stand in solidarity with Israel on Tuesday. “This is how we show pride in being Jewish,” Rabbi Leib Ezagui of the Jewish Community Synagogue in North Palm Beach told WPBF 25 News. He led the prayer at the gathering on Tuesday evening. Palm Beach Gardens Police and additional security measures were in place at the gathering to ensure the safety of everyone. “Emotions are worked up. People are worked up, and people are on edge, and it’s important that we channel those emotions in a positive way,” he said. The Jewish Community Synagogue is channeling that positivity through its Kind Kitchen, where volunteers spent their morning packaging meals for the community. They will also be sending nonperishable items to Israel. “More people are showing up, because our response is doing more good and showing the world kindness and showing the world good deeds,” Rabbi Ezagui said. He said it is heartbreaking seeing the war unfold, as he has family in Israel who are grieving the loss of loved ones. “My brother-in-law, my future sister-in-law is there. Her niece, a 15-year-old, passed right away at the initial attack,” he said. The rabbi said that in darkness comes unity as they send their love to Israel right here from Palm Beach County. “The tefillin is these little boxes, we put one on our hand and we put one on our head. And we say a little prayer, there’s one God and God took us out of Egypt. And that we should be proud Jews,” Rabbi Ezagui said. “For thousands of years, they put the tefillin on when they went out to war, soldiers put on the tefillin. And this is a show of pride that we’re Jewish. We’re not sorry that we’re Jewish, we’re proud to be Jewish.”
