The Voice: Gwen Stefani Opens Up About Blake Shelton‘s Departure and What’s ‘Frustrating’ About His Absence appeared on www.chichester.news by Chichester News.
The Voice’s Blind Auditions Without Blake Shelton: What’s Different?
It has been an interesting experience to watch the Blind Auditions of The Voice without Blake Shelton’s distinctive country twang offering commentary on contestants’ pitches or playfully undermining his fellow coaches’ expertise. After 23 seasons with the country star on the coaching panel, the show appears to still be adjusting, attempting to fill the void by creating new rivalries such as John Legend vs. Niall Horan and highlighting Reba McEntire’s decades of experience as she steps in to replace Shelton. However, it is possible that nobody misses the cowboy more than his wife, Gwen Stefani, who recently opened up about what it’s like to be on The Voice without him, including what she finds “frustrating” about his departure.
Gwen Stefani’s Perspective
Since 2011, Blake Shelton had participated in almost every season of The Voice, until he announced that he would be stepping away after Season 23. In an interview with ET, Gwen Stefani discussed his decision to leave after such a long tenure, revealing that it took her some time to come to terms with it. She admitted, “He’s done, you know, 23 seasons. I think that there’s only so many times you can repeat yourself. The thing that’s frustrating is we all love watching him. He’s so good at the show… It took me like a long time to accept that he was going to [leave], because I was like, ‘Who will you be if you’re not the guy on The Voice?’ Ends up, he’s still the same guy and I get to hang out with him every day. Sorry, guys, I’m lucky.”
Blake Shelton’s Departure
In the later seasons of The Voice, Blake Shelton often mentioned that he was running out of new advice to give and expressed concerns about sounding repetitive. Gwen Stefani acknowledged that he could only say the same things so many times, but what is disappointing about his departure is that audiences enjoyed watching him regardless. Until the end, he continued to support his team members and entertain the home audience, but he simply felt it was time to move on.
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton
Now, Gwen Stefani is the only one fortunate enough to experience Blake Shelton’s humor and charm on a regular basis (at least until his return to TV with Barmageddon’s second season). In fact, the country star is so dearly missed on The Voice that not only does Stefani frequently mention him, but it seems that he is the main focus of questions directed at the current coaches. This was to be expected, according to Stefani, who stated, “Let’s face it. Blake, he’s such a huge part of this show. I mean, he is The Voice in so many ways, so it does definitely feel weird to be back without him. It feels kind of like [my] first season, before I knew he existed. It’s kind of weird, but it’s also like, I’m having so much fun.”
Looking Ahead
Despite rumors of Reba McEntire struggling, the current coaches of The Voice appear to be enjoying themselves, and viewers can look forward to seeing which contestants will rise to the top as the show progresses to the next round. The final night of Blind Auditions will air at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, October 16, followed by the premiere of the Battles at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday, October 17.
