“I am heartbroken”: Fans Demand Re-release of Heath Ledger's 10 Things I Hate About You to Takeover Sydney Sweeney's William Shakespeare Adaptation appeared on fandomwire.com by FandomWire.
Romcoms has been a fan-favorite genre for a long time now and it’s hard to talk about the genre without mentioning 1999’s 10 Things I Hate About You featuring Heath Ledger. The film was a modernization of William Shakespeare’s comedy The Taming of the Shrew and easily became one of the most popular live-action William Shakespeare adaptations of all time. However, as Hollywood progressed, many new films were made and now fans are worried that 10 Things I Hate About You will soon be demoted from the list.
2024’s Anyone but You, which is loosely based on Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, is now officially the highest-grossing live-action William Shakespeare adaptation. So, fans are now demanding a re-release of 10 Things I Hate About You so it can rightfully stay on top of the list.

10 Things I Hate About You was a modernization of William Shakespeare’s comedy The Taming of the Shrew. The film played a key role in making Heath Ledger a household name around the world. Even today, the film is labeled as one of the best romcoms of all time.
Anyone but You also managed to beat Romeo + Juliet
Previously, 1996’s Romeo + Juliet held the record for being the highest-grossing live-action William Shakespeare adaptation with roughly $147.6 million. Apart from this, Anyone but You has also managed to beat films like West Side Story (2021) and She’s the Man (2006).
The film features stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell and was released in the theatres by Sony Pictures Releasing on December 22, 2023. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the film has managed to be profitable for the studios. It’s safe to say that 10 Things I Hate About You can easily beat Anyone but You today, mainly because the film has developed a cult following since its release and is widely considered a classic in the teen film genre.
