03 May 2024, Bengaluru: Walmart-backed Ninjacart, India’s leading agri-startup that leverages technology and data to organise the global agriculture ecosystem, hosted the nation’s biggest agri-tech hackathon, where talented minds converged from across the country to present groundbreaking solutions for pressing agricultural challenges.

Ninjacart Hackathon, India’s premier open-to-all agri-tech event, drew participation from 175 teams across the nation, offering a total prize pool of INR 1.75 lakhs. The competition centered on tackling vital challenges within Indian agriculture, encapsulated in four key problem statements:

Finance Risk Assessment Models for MSMEs: Participants were challenged to create sophisticated financial risk assessment models for MSMEs in the agriculture sector, leveraging data analytics and machine learning.

Farmer Management Software – Traceability and Monitoring in Farmer Ecosystem: Teams were asked to build comprehensive farmer management software integrating traceability and real-time monitoring capabilities.

Enhancing Commerce Through ONDC and Matchmaking: Leveraging the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), participants were tasked with designing innovative solutions to enhance commerce in the agritech sector.

After multiple rounds of evaluation and ideation, 15 teams encompassing 50 participants were selected for the 36-hour Hackathon held at Ninjacart’s Headquarters in Bangalore. Participants underwent rigorous evaluation based on factors such as novelty, execution, and attitude. Projects were assessed not only for their originality and innovation but also for their feasibility and scalability. The finalists exhibited and presented their solutions to a jury who then shortlisted the top 3 winners of the Ninjacart Hackathon.

The all girls’ team from Kurukshetra University, Haryana was declared winners of Ninjacart Hackathon 2024 for their project on Farmer Management Software: Traceability and Monitoring in Farmer Ecosystem. The first runners were students from Sri Eshwar College of Engineering, Coimbatore for their project on Revolutionizing Plant Management and Enhancing Farming Efficiency. Additionally, three teams were equally declared second runners-up.

“At Ninjacart, our vision is to revolutionise the agricultural landscape by harnessing the power of technology and innovation. With a goal to address unique challenges within the agricultural sector, we organised this event to bring together bright and young minds. This hackathon, India’s largest in scale and impact, is a testament to our commitment to driving positive change. It’s not just about its size; it’s about the profound impact it leaves on the industry. Through initiatives like these, Ninjacart continues to lead the charge in driving innovation, paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient future for all stakeholders,” expressed Kartheeswaran KK, CEO & Co-founder of Ninjacart.
