When people say that cancel culture is over, Louis CK is often the example they give. And look: I am aware that there may have been some overreach during the cancel culture/#MeToo era, but that was absolutely not the case with Louis CK When the powers that be decided to draw the line between those who would be forever canceled and those who would be forgiven, apparently, the line was inexplicably drawn between Harvey Weinstein and Louis CK
That line makes no sense to me. Jeffrey Toobin was ran out on a rail for unwittingly being caught on camera masturbating once. Louis CK repeatedly invaded the space of women by blocking their exit, masturbating in front of them without their consent, and using the power of his position to silence those women. And then, after he was caught, he turned those sexual assaults into a punchline.
Louis CK never should have been afforded a second chance, and seven years later, his accusers are finally given the time and space to share their feelings about the sexual assaults and Louis CK’s subsequent comeback. Sorry/Not Sorry was co-directed by Caroline Suh and Cara Mones and produced by The New York Times. After its debut at TIFF last year, it is set to hit theaters and VOD on July 1.
