Best remastered PC games and reboots
(Pocket-lint) – Reboots and remasters have been coming thick and fast over the last few years. If you’re feeling nostalgic then there are some great games to choose from.
We’ve been eyeing up a number of the classic PC game remasters from the last few years and selected some of the best that you might have missed. Are these worthy of being included in our list of the best PC games to buy though?
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition
Age of Empires 2 was originally released in 1999, then remastered in 2013 as Age of Empires II: HD Edition, then again in 2019 as the Definitive Edition. This might have seemed like milking the cash cow a little bit but this remastered included 4K Ultra HD graphics, new campaigns, four new civilisations and more.
There’s a reason the Age of Empires franchise is so popular and the second game is certainly worth a revisit with all these updates in the remaster.
Skyrim VR
Some might groan at the thought of another Skyrim version. After all the game originally dropped in 2011 and has since been remastered and released in all sorts of ways, including on Nintendo Switch. But in our mind, Skyrim VR bought a new kind of fun to the game thanks to the extra immersion of virtual reality.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Finally, PC gamers are able to get a taste of Halo. With the whole anthology including Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4 all in one neat package.
The games have also been optimised for a proper PC gaming experience with enhanced 4K UHD support, over 60 FPS visuals, ultrawide screen support and more besides.
Burnout Paradise Remastered
If you remember Paradise City fondly, then the remaster takes you back to “the ultimate driving playground” with more content including all the add on-ons. Plus naturally, it’s all in 4K so what more could you want?
Mafia: Definitive Edition
The original Mafia game was a great adventure in the world of the Cosa nostra. It was perfectly timed and a wonderful retro alternative to the more modern-day era worlds of GTA. Mafia: Definitive Edition saw the game reworked and re-made from the ground up, making it perfect for those who remember the original fondly.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered
When many of us think of classic shooters, we think of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The 2007 release of Call of Duty might not have been the first game in the series but it was one of the best. Thoughts of missions like “all ghillied up” certainly fill us with nostalgia.
In 2017, Activision released a remaster of the game. Fans loved replaying the original campaign with updated graphics. But the multiplayer issues have really upset fans of the series. If you’re hoping the relive the insane days of shipment then you may be found wanting.
