Westmeath exodus continues as Andy McCormack heads for Middle East appeared on www.independent.ie by Frank Roche.
Westmeath have lost another experienced footballer ahead of next season, less than a week after Dessie Dolan stepped down as manager.
Midfielder Andy McCormack is heading for the Middle East, and so joins a Lake County exodus that already includes the Australia-bound David Lynch and James Dolan, who has retired.
The latter’s cousin, Dessie, called time on his two-year managerial reign last Friday and several other veteran players such as Kevin Maguire, John Heslin and Kieran Martin are likely to be pondering their future even before a new team boss is unveiled.
McCormack, from the Rosemount club, was part of the Westmeath panel that claimed the inaugural Tailteann Cup in 2022 and was a starter for their Division 3 league final triumph against Down earlier this year.
“Best of luck to one of our most experienced footballers, Andy McCormack, who is off on his travels to the Middle East,” his club posted on social media. “Andy has given Rosemount over 10 years of hard work and dedication on the field, and was a mainstay on the team since he was 17.”
