Harris, Schiff hold sizeable leads in California, latest Emerson polls show appeared on fox5sandiego.com by Travis Schlepp.

New polling data from Emerson College and The Hill show that California remains a Democratic stronghold in the run-up to the November General Election.

The latest statewide survey shows the Harris-Walz campaign carrying a sizeable lead over the Trump-Vance ticket, 60% to 36%, with 5% listed as “other” or undecided.

The 24-point gap is well outside the poll’s margin of error, officials said.

In the “favorability” department, the former president continues to be perceived negatively in California, with 64% of those asked saying they had an unfavorable opinion of him versus the 36% that had favorable.

Harris, meanwhile, received 61% favorability.

The poll’s California respondents were also asked to identify the top issue heading into Election Day; 39% of Californians polled chose the economy as the most important issue.

Down the ballot, the race for California’s open U.S. Senate seat between Rep. Adam Schiff and former Los Angeles Dodgers star Steve Garvey shows a significant gap as well.

Democrat Schiff received 55% of support from the poll’s respondents compared to 33% for the Republican Garvey and 13% undecided. That’s also beyond the poll’s margin of error.

The results of the polling may not be surprising for those who follow the political scene closely.

California has reliably skewed Blue for decades, having not been won by a Republican since George H. W. Bush in 1988. The state hasn’t had a Republican senator since John Seymour was appointed to the position in 1991 and lost his re-election bid to the late Dianne Feinstein.

However, the Emerson/Hill polling does show some interesting developments in other states.

Respondents were asked who they would vote for if the Presidential Election were held today. In Florida and Texas, 50% of those asked said they would vote for Trump.

Harris collected 45% and 46%, respectively, which falls within the poll’s margin of error.

The latest poll used responses from more than 800 likely voters in California alone and hundreds more in three other states who were contacted by cell phone.

“Data was weighted by statewide voter parameters, including gender, age, race/ethnicity, education (US Census), and voter registration (state secretary of state) and turnout data (exit polling),” polling officials said.

Responses were collected between Sept. 3-5 and was conducted by Emerson College Polling and sponsored by Nexstar Media, the parent company of NewsNation and KTLA.
