Sherlock Holmes 3 Gets Promising Update 13 Years After Second Movie appeared on www.cbr.com by Deana Carpenter.
The third movie in the Sherlock Holmes feature film saga, which fans have been waiting for since 2011’s Sherlock Holmes 2: The Shadow Game, recently received a long-awaited update from one of its stars. Jude Law, who played Dr. John Watson opposite Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes, said Sherlock Holmes 3 has a new script but has not seen it yet.
“The plan has been evolving over how many years it’s been now, probably nearly 10 years,” Law said in a recent interview with The Playlist. “There’s a great will to make it. And a great will amongst us all to get right to do it, to find the time, to find the right team.”

How Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom Connects to Deadpool & Wolverine
Deadpool & Wolverine may have clues to how Robert Downey Jr.’s casting as Doctor Doom could be integrated into the MCU.
Earlier this year, it was reported that several delays slowed the development of the third Sherlock Holmes movie, but producer Susan Downey said that the movie is still going to happen. The movie was first confirmed in 2011, but 13 years later it still has not come to fruition. In 2018, there were rumblings again of the threequel before things went quiet again.
The Threequel is Still “Alive”
Recently, Susan Downey, who is also the wife of Robert Downey Jr., said the team behind the film is still committed, and the project is “still very much alive.” However, there have been no concrete statements on the production status of the movie.
Law said that his friendship with Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey is a motivating factor in trying to get the third Sherlock Holmes film off the ground. “The one great thing I took from both of those films is my friendship with Robert and his wife Susan, they mean an awful lot to me,” Law said. He added that on set, Downey was “extraordinarily brilliant, fun, motivated, and inspirational.”
Sherlock Holmes is a $1 billion franchise that began with the first movie in 2009. As for the script for the third installment, Law said, “I think there’s a new iteration of the script I haven’t read yet. And there’s a case of ‘How expensive is it? And can we get it made?”

Timing Could Prove to be a Factor
There’s also a matter of timing, as Downey will be playing Doctor Doom in the new Marvel Studios movies Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. Meanwhile, Law is set to appear the new Disney+ series, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which debuts on Dec. 3 on the streamer.
In a previous interview, Law said the series is “very much a piece about working together and overcoming fears and overcoming…perhaps (one’s) opinion of oneself or one’s own weaknesses in order to succeed.” Star Wars: Skeleton Crew follows four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their planet, which leads them to get lost in a dangerous and strange galaxy.
Sherlock Holmes 3 is listed as being in pre-production on IMDb with Downey, Law, Jared Harris and Eddie Marsan listed as cast members.
