Josh Gottheimer likes Bruce Springsteen more than you | Sheneman appeared on www.nj.com by Drew Sheneman | For The Star-Ledger.

Josh Gottheimer would really, really like you to know that he is running for governor and that he likes Bruce Springsteen. In the four-term congressman’s effort to show the people of New Jersey just how relatable he is, candidate Gottheimer released his year end Spotify Wrapped list for 2024.

For the uninitiated, a Spotify Wrapped list is simply a list of your most-played songs displayed in a social media friendly format to maximize shares and likes. For Josh from Jersey, this means Bruce, followed by a little Bruce and just to switch it up a bit, more Bruce. It’s a real Taylor ham egg and cheese, down the shore, champion of the working man kind of list. But the list is a lie.

Eagle-eyed observers noticed some off-brand font variations in the list Gottheimer posted that would never be seen in any self respecting, legitimate Spotify Wrapped. Further investigation led to the discovery, and later admission, that the list was fabricated! The first scandal of the gubernatorial campaign has begun.

The congressman supplied the public a list of his most-played Spotify songs not as it is, but as he wished it to be. Gottheimer explained that he shares his account with his two young children and their undying love for Taylor Swift froze out the Boss and skewed the year-end results.

Therefore, to most accurately portray his real listening habits to the citizens of the Garden State, the campaign was forced to resort to a subterfuge that calls into question the legitimacy of year-end song lists, and perhaps democracy itself.

It remains to be seen whether Gottheimer’s fledgling campaign can recover from such a severe self-inflicted wound. I have not reached out to the congressman for comment on this growing scandal, and will not update this post when and if I hear back.
