PlayStation Plus Premium game trials reportedly vary in length
Game trials set to appear on PlayStation Plus Premium will differ in length, it’s been reported.
Twitter user PS Vortex shared screenshots from the Hong Kong PlayStation Store, where the revamped PlayStation Plus is already live.
These screenshots show that of the games that currently offer free trials to Premium members, the number of hours available for each trial is different.
According to PS Vortex, most of the trials available – including WWE 2K22 and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves – allow players to try out each game for two hours.
However, trials for Horizon: Forbidden West and Cyberpunk 2077 instead offer a five-hour trial, presumably due to the length of these games.
Game trials differ from demos in that, rather than offering a small section of a game, they provide access to the full game for a limited number of hours.
The Hong Kong PlayStation Store’s trials appear to confirm previous claims that time-limited trials must last at least two hours.
Game Developer sources claimed last month that new games that cost more than $34 (€33 in Europe, 4,000 yen in Japan) will be required to have a time-limited trial that must last at least two hours.
Developers will reportedly be allowed three months following the release of their game to release the timed trial. These trials must be available to players for at least 12 months. This new policy isn’t retroactive and doesn’t apply to PlayStation VR titles.
The revamped PlayStation Plus launched in much of Asia on Monday and will be rolling out to Japan, the Americas and Europe throughout June.
It consists of three tiers – Essential, Extra and Premium – with the Premium tier offering time-limited game trials on “blockbuster titles”.
Premium also includes a selection of original PS1, PS2 and PSP games, as well as cloud streaming access to a library of PS3 games.
