Activists ask U.S. Congress to approve new aid package ASAP
Transatlantic Task Force for Ukraine (TTFU), the organization uniting influential activists, experts, and civil society leaders, has turned to U.S. Congress with an open letter, calling on legislators to speed up the process of approving a new assistance package to Ukraine worth over $11 billion.
The full text of the letter has been published on the organization’s website, Ukrinform reports.
“The Transatlantic Task Force for Ukraine strongly urges the U.S. Congress to swiftly pass additional military and economic aid for Ukraine to help defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity and, by doing so, enhance U.S. and transatlantic security and restore the rules-based international order,” the appeal reads.
The activists note that the request filed by the Biden Administration on September 2 concerns nearly $11.7 billion worth of assistance, which is critically needed by Ukraine.
The discovery of mass graves in the city of Izium after its liberation from Russian occupation, and the overwhelming destruction of civilian buildings and infrastructure perpetrated by Russia’s military there and in other Ukrainian cities, “again highlight the depravity and the threats posed by Vladimir Putin and Russia,” TTFU wrote.
It is noted that congressional support has been “crucial to address humanitarian, economic and recovery needs and was instrumental in fundamentally transforming Ukraine’s defense forces.”
Russian aggression and Putin’s totalitarian bent have consequences for U.S. security and economic interests and impact the entire world from increased food insecurity, to the weaponization of energy, to the erosion of democracy, including disinformation and blatant interference in elections globally, the letter states.
“Swift Congressional approval to provide Ukraine with robust military, economic and humanitarian assistance must be a priority given the extraordinary stakes and threat to allies and partners. A Ukraine that prevails will help ensure a future where freedom, democracy and the rule of law represent the future, rather than tyranny and authoritarianism,” the appeal concludes.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Transatlantic Task Force for Ukraine had earlier addressed the U.S. legislature with the similar requests. In May this year, the activists were asking U.S. Senate to pace up the process of consideration and approval of a major assistance package to Ukraine, worth $40 billion.
