Sixty-six health clinics across 15 states have stopped offering
abortion services
in the 100 days since the
Supreme Court overturned
Roe v. Wade, ending nationwide access to the procedure.
After the court announced its decision to reverse Roe on June 24, abortion rights activists predicted it would significantly limit access to the procedure in GOP-led states. Those predictions turned out to be somewhat accurate, as more than 80% of clinics in red states have closed off access to the procedure, according to a
study conducted by the Guttmacher Institute
.

“When clinics close down or stop offering abortion care, it represents a lost source of health care for their community,” said Rachel Jones, a principal research scientist at the Guttmacher Institute. “More so, the loss of clinics is felt in all states — even those where abortion remains legal. Abortion clinics in these states are being inundated with people from states with abortion bans seeking care.”
The pro-abortion rights research organization examined 15 conservative states — Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin — and how their reproductive clinics changed their services after Roe was overturned.
Before the Supreme Court handed down its decision, the 15 states had a total of 79 clinics that offered abortion services, according to the study. But 100 days later, only 13 still offer the procedure. All 13 of those clinics are located in Georgia, which has a six-week abortion ban.

Of the 66 clinics that no longer offer abortion services, 40 still offer some healthcare services, while 26 have completely shut their doors, according to the study. Texas, which bans abortion after a heartbeat is detected, had the most closures, with 12 clinics shutting down completely and another 11 remaining open but no longer offering abortion services.
Because of the closures, roughly 22 million people across the 15 states, or one-third of all women in the country, now live in areas where abortion is inaccessible, according to the report.
