Florida author Bob Kealing returns to Florida Southern College on Thursday to discuss his new book, “Good Day Sunshine State: How the Beatles Rocked Florida.”
Kealing will speak at 7 p.m. in the Florida Lecture Series on the Lakeland campus. Kealing’s book explores the two weeks the Beatles spent in Florida during their 1964 tour, including their historic Gator Bowl concert on Sept. 11.

The book draws from dozens of interviews and access to rare, primary source documents and letters from the Beatles and their entourage, Florida Southern said in a news release.
Kealing was an Edward R. Murrow and five-time Emmy award-winning reporter for WESH-TV in Orlando and is the author of five books, including “Calling Me Home: Gram Parsons and the Roots of Country Rock.” He played a leading role in the renovation of the Derry Down, a Winter Haven concert venue at which the late Parsons performed as a youth.
The free lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in Branscomb Auditorium.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Bob Kealing back to our campus,” James M. Denham, director of FSC’s Lawton M. Chiles Center for Florida History, said in the release. “From Gram Parsons, to Elvis, and now the Beatles, no one has done more to uncover the exciting music history of Florida in the 1960s and 1970s.”
