Ballet and the Beatles appeared on www.henleystandard.co.uk by henleystandard.co.uk.

ONE year on from its premiere, Beatles Ballet is back at the Kenton Theatre.

The show, which comprises choreographed ballet pieces set to some of the Fab Four’s greatest hits played live, was a phenomenal success when it came to Henley last April.

Sara Knight, founder and artistic director of New York’s Chevalier Ballet Company, was only able to put the show on after some eleventh-hour assistance from the theatre and from tribute band Beatlemania, who stepped in at the last minute.

Having faced postponement during the coronavirus pandemic, Sara discovered that the group’s regular American support bands were unable to travel. Fortunately, staff at the Kenton linked her up with David Peterson of Beatlemania and the show was able to go on.

Choreographer Sara, who grew up in Birmingham and is a graduate of the Royal Ballet School, says: “I was so grateful, it was so lovely and we had a full house. Everyone seemed really happy and the band were happy.

“We want to do more performances together but this year we just have the one.

“Dave was really excited about making this a big show, because it is so well received, so we’re hopefully going to try and do that next year. What I would love to do is like a three-week tour in England.

“This is like another taster for people to see and hopefully get excited about, as we want to do more performances together.

“The show is the same scenario as last year, as it’s working, although I think it will have a fresh look. We have 11 dancers this year, seven from New York, one from Chicago and three from the UK.

“I’ve got some new dancers who are really excited, even some American dancers that have never been out of the country, so they’re excited.”

The show will feature a wide range of Beatles favourites, including Something, Here Comes the Sun, A Day in the Life and All You Need Is Love, to name a few.

Sara is looking forward to being in the vicinity of the late Beatle George Harrison’s family at Friar Park once again.

She says: “I’d love it if Olivia Harrison knew about the show. I’m so proud of it and I just love the Beatles’ music. It just uplifts you if you’ve had a bad day, or you just start listening to it and it makes you smile.

“It also means a lot to me, being English and having my home here, so I love it that we’re back.”
