Blackpink Singer Jennie Breaks Her Own Historic Record appeared on www.forbes.com by Hugh McIntyre.
Blackpink singer Jennie has scored the solo hit of her career–at least thus far–with her The Weeknd-assisted “One of the Girls.” The track has become a breakout smash for the South Korean superstar, and it’s getting bigger and bigger by the week.
Last week, Jennie made history on the Hot 100 with “One of the Girls.” The tune lifted to No. 69 in its second turn on the ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S. As it reached that new peak, it instantly became the highest-charting hit by a South Korean solo female musician in U.S. history.
If “One of the Girls” had vanished from the Hot 100, it would still hold that place in the record books. Jennie would own this bit of history, at least for a while–but thankfully, the story doesn’t end there.
This week, “One of the Girls” climbs even higher on the Hot 100. The tune steps up from No. 69 to No. 61. As it does so, Jennie breaks her own record for the loftiest placement of all time on the chart among tracks by South Korean solo female artists.
At the rate that “One of the Girls” is growing, it could easily continue to climb in the coming weeks. Every time it improves, Jennie resets her previously-set record, and there’s no telling how much higher the count will soar. The track is performing especially well on streaming platforms, and all those plays are contributing to its continued success on the Hot 100–as well as other Billboard charts.
The same single is also present on at least five other Billboard charts. In addition to the Hot 100 (and the company’s two global rankings), “One of the Girls” can also be found on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs, Hot R&B Songs, R&B Streaming Songs, and Rhythmic Airplay rankings.
