The show is over but the bidding goes on.
More than $600,000 was raised at the inaugural American Music Honors event, presented by the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music on April 15 at the Pollak Theatre on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch.
The funds go to the Springsteen Archives, which preserves and promotes the legacy of Springsteen and American music, and supports music education programs in New Jersey and across the country.
An online auction is underway at springsteenarchives.org/awards2023 through 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, for those looking to contribute to the Archives. Items include a Springsteen signed 1952 Fender Telecaster guitar; a luxury suite at the Springsteen and E Street Band Aug. 18 show at Citizens Bark Ballpark in Philadelphia; and a Danny Clinch portrait of Springsteen and the E Street Band signed by the band.
Steven Van Zandt, Sam Moore among honorees
Steven Van Zandt, Sam Moore of Sam and Dave, Darlene Love and Steve Earle were recipients of American Music Honors awards on Saturday. Springsteen did not attend due to contracting COVID, but he was there virtually with videos that inducted Van Zandt and Love. Southside Johnny Lyon inducted Moore, and E Street Band bassist Garry Tallent inducted Earle.
“It was a privilege to see so many music enthusiasts come together to celebrate the accomplishments of Stevie Van Zandt, Darlene Love, Sam Moore and Steve Earle,” said Robert Santelli, executive director of the Archives, in a statement. “Their contributions to the world of music are truly unparalleled.”
The night, hosted by Jon Stewart, also featured several musical performers.
“The acceptance speeches and spectacular performances, aided by the house band, Disciples of Soul, added an extra layer of excitement to the evening,” Santelli said. “The renditions of our honorees’ iconic songs were simply outstanding and made the event all the more special.”

Gov. Murphy celebrates ‘Bruce Springsteen Day’
Gov. Phil Murphy also attended, and he issued a proclamation stating that Springsteen’s birthday, Sept. 23, is now “Bruce Springsteen Day” in the state of New Jersey.
“There’s been 14 administrations in New Jersey since Springsteen started performing,” Murphy said. “I can’t believe it’s taken this long.”
The next leg of the Springsteen and E Street Band tour begins Friday, April 28, in Barcelona, Spain.
