Bungie Comments on Destiny 2 Exotic Drop Rates, Hints at Further Changes appeared on gamerant.com by Game Rant.

Bungie addresses the exotic drop rates in Destiny 2 Legend and Master difficulty Lost Sectors, providing insight into development ideals and confirming that fans will have more opportunities to gain exotic gear with an upcoming tweak to Vex Strike Force. Exotic gear has been a hot topic among Destiny 2 fans as of late thanks to the difficulty overhauls that Bungie made to the core experience. Many fans were frustrated by how much effort getting through Legend and Master Lost Sectors now took without much in the way of quality rewards for getting through.

Thankfully, Bungie heard its players, recently putting out an update that not only lowered parts of the difficulty spikes, but increased the percentage change of earning an exotic when looting the final chest at the end. Still, some fans found that the tweaks were not enough, with some players still feeling the time investment versus rewards for these activities was still out of balance. One Destiny 2 clan even took it upon themselves to calculate the new drop rates, discovering a disappointing end result. Bungie is now getting involved in the discourse, providing new insights into the past, current, and future.

In a new blog post that essentially responded to feedback on Destiny 2: Lightfall, Bungie addressed fan concerns over exotic drop rates, confirming that Lost Sectors were designed as a way for players to test their builds against endgame style content and have a way to earn exotic gear. Overtime, Bungie acknowledged that a lot of pressure has been placed on Lost Sectors as they become less welcoming to newer players and less reliable to target specific items with new exotics constantly being added to the game.

Outside of the recent changes to exotic drop rates and overall difficulty, Bungie is confident that players will get more out of the Lost Sectors as the power cap isn’t increasing next season, meaning more players will be able to interact with them earlier than normal. However, Bungie has confirmed it will continue to monitor things like completion time and rewards going forward.

In addition, Bungie teased upcoming changes to the Vex Strike Force public event on Neomuna, another activity that rewards exotic gear upon completion. Sometime in the near future, completing the Vex Strike Force event will drop a new piece of Exotic armor for players who still have some to collect, with no slot limits like Lost Sectors. For those who have completed their “knockout list” of exotics, players will recieve a random exotic roll for their character class.

Destiny 2 does have a way for players to get their hands on exotic gear outside of seeing it rarely and randomly drop in the world, mainly through interacting with the weekend merchant Xur or the Monument to Lost Lights at the Tower, these are mainly legacy gear. For those who want newer exotics that arrived with Beyond Light and after, Legend and Master Lost Sectors are really the only route for players to go.

Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
