A Burton singer is preparing to get back on the stage to warm up the audience ahead of a night with the King of Rock and Roll.
Tony Mulcahy is preparing to perform at The Waterfront, at Barton Marina, after being asked to perform as a warm-up ahead of an Elvis Presley tribute act. He will perform on Friday, May 19.
The performer, known to many for his tribute to Engelbert Humperdinck, said he had no intention of returning to solo entertainment, at least on a regular basis, but could not resist the opportunity to open for a tribute to The King.

Mr Mulcahy said: “This year -2023 – sees me in my 60th year in the music profession and not one bit of it do I regret. The occasional unfortunate times that I experienced along the way merely strengthened my will to take the next step to achieving my dream; to reach the top.
“Sad circumstances in 1973 saw an end to my dream, but instilled in me the determination never to cease using my voice to entertain in some way. My first gig was at the Jubilee Hall here in Burton On Trent in 1963 as lead singer with a local group – Karl Justice and the Jury – my debut into the music profession, which put me on the path that I had chosen to travel.
“During the travels through the 1960s, to date, I am proud to say that I became, and still am, a big Elvis admirer and fan. So you can imagine how I felt when some 60 years later I was asked to be the support act for an Elvis tribute act at the Waterfront pub/restaurant in Barton Under Needwood.
“I said I would think about the chance and after perhaps three seconds I said that I would be more than pleased to be part of the show.”
