Call of Duty could be released on PS Plus on day one according to the latest statement from Microsoft. This would be part of the company’s plan for the franchise that would bring parity to all platforms as long as the proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard goes ahead.

Call of Duty on PS Plus and Xbox Game Pass at the same time

Microsoft has already offered Sony a 10-year deal to keep Call of Duty on PS5 and PS4, and this deal will mean future games have the same “release date, content, features, upgrades, quality, and playability with the Xbox platform” (thanks VGC). The company further clarified that “any CoD Game in a Microsoft multigame subscription is eligible for inclusion in Sony’s multi-game subscription service, at the same time and for the same duration”. In other words, Call of Duty games will come to Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus on day one as long as the deal goes through.

The fate of Call of Duty depends entirely on the outcome of Microsoft’s deal, but it seems like Sony isn’t happy regardless of what happens. Microsoft believes that allowing Activision’s games onto PS Plus will help to improve the service, but Sony claims otherwise. The latter has alleged it would allow Microsoft to increase the price of Call of Duty through its licensing fee, therefore causing a PS Plus subscription price increase and destroying competition.
