Cambodia records fifth monkeypox case appeared on www.thestar.com.my by The Star Online.
THE country reported one more case of monkeypox, raising the total number of infections to five since December last year.
The Ministry of Health said in a statement late on Monday that laboratory results from the National Institute of Public Health and the Pasteur Institute in Cambodia showed on Feb 2 that “another man was tested positive for monkeypox”.
“The total confirmed cases of monkeypox in Cambodia have increased to five,” the ministry said.
“The latest patient has been undergoing proper treatment at a hospital,” it added.
The ministry renewed its calls for the people to be extra vigilant.
It stressed that monkeypox is transmitted from person to person through all forms of sexual contact with a person affected by the virus.
Monkeypox can also be spread through direct contact with wounds and bodily fluids as well as equipment contaminated with the virus, the ministry added.
The virus can also be passed from mother to child through the umbilical cord during or after birth if a pregnant woman has monkeypox.
“Individuals with symptoms such as rashes with blisters on the face, palms, feet, body, eyes, mouth or genitals; fever; swollen lymph nodes; headache; muscle aches; low back pain and fatigue … should visit a health centre or hospital for a consultation or test for monkeypox,” the ministry urged. — Xinhua
