Candlelight concerts in Norfolk range from Taylor Swift to Vivaldi, with some spookiness too appeared on www.pilotonline.com by Staff Report.

Candlelight and music. Need we say more?

Yes, we do.

The international Candlelight concert series is coming to Norfolk with themed shows that immerse the musicians and audience in the glow of thousands of candles.

The hourlong concerts will be held at the Granby Theater, starting with a Halloween-themed night that includes familiar tunes from “The Addams Family,” “Beetlejuice” and “The Exorcist.” November shows include a tribute to superstar musician and songwriter Taylor Swift, and to Hans Zimmer, the Oscar-winning composer of movie scores including “Dune” and “The Lion King.” The live entertainment company that created the series, Fever, also will have shows in Richmond.

Though the series was conceived for traditional classical music, it has expanded to cover a variety of themes and genres, a news release said. Those include movie soundtracks and artists such as Queen and Ed Sheeran, and can involve dancers and aerial performers.

The shows make the music accessible to more people, the statement said, for a “broader audience that might have never considered a classical music concert before to connect with the most iconic pieces of the greatest composers and listen to the top hits of well-known artists in a different way.”

The shows have been held in more than 100 cities worldwide and often use local musicians. Patrons must be at least 8 to attend; anyone younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
