Former Oregon U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s chances of heading the Labor Department could be in trouble if Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky doesn’t drop his opposition.
Paul is critical of unions.
He says he wants clarification about why she supported the union-friendly Pro-Act when she was a Republican congresswoman.
Chavez-Deremer says she no longer supports provisions that would have overturned right-to-work laws in the states.
She’s getting the backing of the Teamsters despite her flip-flop.
“Not only do we support her employment, we are going to the mat to make sure that she gets confirmed,” Teamsters President Sean O’Brien said on Fox News.
Chavez-Deremer will need Paul’s support if Senate Democrats don’t back her nomination.
However, some Democrats were wary of Chavez-DeRemer’s answers regarding whether she’d push back on any DOGE cuts to the Labor Department.
Oregon U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden said he will vote no following her first confirmation hearing last week.
