Do you need PS Plus to play Warzone 2.0 in Modern Warfare II? appeared on www.destructoid.com by Destructoid.

Is a subscription really necessary?

With all of the different game modes and ways to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, it can all get a bit confusing at times. A few weeks ago, Activision released a revamped version of one of their favorite game modes, dubbed Warzone 2.0. This release includes a whole new map, new weapons, new gameplay features, and more. For fans who have been glued to Warzone since its initial release back in 2020, this update is a welcome change to keep things fresh.

Warzone 2.0 and the DMZ extraction mode are free-to-play, while the traditional multiplayer and campaign are only accessible if you’ve purchased the game outright. If you’re not sure if you need a paid subscription PS Plus or not in order to check out CoD‘s famed battle royale mode, don’t worry — we’ve got you covered.

Warzone 2.0 is truly free-to-play

The short answer is no, you don’t need a subscription to PlayStation Plus (or the Microsoft equivalent, Xbox Live Gold) in order to play Warzone 2.0. As stated above, the Warzone modes, as well as DMZ, are part of the game’s free-to-play model, so you’re good to jump into those sans subscription. It’s only the multiplayer that will require PS Plus, but if you’re not into that anyway, you’re off the hook. All you need to do is download Warzone to your console of choice from the store, and you’re ready to go, no strings attached.

A PlayStation Plus subscription will run you $60 a year, or $10 a month if you prefer. Keep in mind that there are other perks to PS Plus, like getting a few free games each month for example, or discounts on select titles. Xbox Live Gold shares the same costs as its competitor, and also gives you access to free games and other discounts in the store.
