Ed Sheeran wears Ipswich shirt as he celebrates promotion at Miami Grand Prix appeared on talksport.com by Phil Spencer.
Ed Sheeran couldn’t resist sporting his Ipswich Town shirt during his appearance at the Miami Grand Prix on Saturday.
The pop superstar was in attendance for the qualifying session as a guest of Ferrari and could be seen wearing the club’s blackout third kit.
In a video posted by the iconic Italian brand, Sheeran could be seen walking into Ferrari’s team garage to meet Charles Leclerc.
On his way, it was clear that Sheeran was sporting a huge smile on his face, something that was hardly a surprise given what had happened earlier in the day.
Kicking off at lunchtime on Saturday, Ipswuch beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 on the final day of the Championship season to send them back to the top-flight.
The Tractorboys were last a Premier League side in 2002 and have therefore ended a 22-year wait to return to the big time.
As well as being a huge fan of the club, Sheeran has sponsored the club’s shirt since 2021 but wasn’t in attendance for the historic clash at Portman Road due to being in Miami for the Grand Prix.
That didn’t stop him from partaking in , club’s celebrations though with Sheeran FaceTiming the Ipswich players to congratulate them on their achievements.
“I wish I was there,” he could be seen saying before, asking “do you guys want to go out?” – a proposition that was met with a resounding “yeah!”
The hit-maker also gave a cheeky explanation for why he wasn’t there to enjoy the scenes in person, saying: “I’ve got to pay for the sponsorship somehow!”
With Premier League football on the horizon, Ipswich won’t have to rely on Sheeran to propel their image onto the global stage for much longer.
