Ed Sheeran‘s eye-watering tax bill revealed appeared on metro.co.uk by Emily Bashforth.
Ed Sheeran may be one of the richest singers of our time, but no one can say he’s not paying his taxes.
In 2022, the Grammy winner’s earnings soared to £18.3million, marking an impressive increase of £8.4million compared to the previous year – not bad for some!
But when it comes to tax, the Thinking Out Loud hitmaker, 32, actually handed over £8million, aka most of his pay rise.
New figures reported by The Mirror show that Ed paid £158,917 a week to the taxman last year.
The global superstar has spoken in the past about helping others with his astonishing wealth.
‘It is “earn a penny, spend a penny” with me,’ he previously said.
‘As soon as it comes in, it goes out. I don’t have that much value on it.’
Ed insisted that he places more value on ‘my friends and family being ok’ than he does his bank balance.
‘A lot of my money goes to charity or to children’s hospitals near where I live,’ he shared sweetly.
‘I have enough to be comfortable and the rest goes to help people.’
Ed – who released his seventh studio album, Autumn Variations, last month – is set to rake in even more coins thanks to his worldwide tour.
The earnings of his 90 2022/2023 sell-out shows have not yet been totaled, nor have the sales from his latest record.
So, it looks like the taxman might be in for another bumper cheque from the Photograph singer.
A source previously shared: ‘Ed is going from strength to strength.
‘He’s one of the biggest stars on the planet and these numbers back that up.’
As for the rest of his net worth, the songwriter has £52million in the funds of Ed Sheeran Ltd, as shown by Companies House.
It turned over £23.6million last year, £34.1million in 2021, and £31.6million in 2019.
Dad-of-two Ed – who is married to childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn – has spoken openly about his unprecedented fame before.
Most recently, the star shared the thing he hates most about being so well known – and it’ll melt your heart.
‘What’s the worst part of being famous?’ asked one Reddit fan during a Q&A session.
Ed responded: ‘Not being able to take my kids to the zoo without people filming them.’
One fan suggested that Ed should ‘rent out a zoo’ instead, although another argued: ‘He shouldn’t have to.’
