Every The Match participant and winner through the years, from Tiger Woods to Patrick Mahomes appeared on ftw.usatoday.com by Prince J. Grimes.
The Match has become somewhat of a thing over the years, as Capital One’s annual celebrity golf event is still ongoing after beginning in 2018.
What began as a simple exhibition between golf greats Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson has morphed into a chance for fans to see athletes from other sports try their hands in a golf competition.
Football greats Peyton Manning and Tom Brady have participated, in addition to basketball stars like Stephen Curry and Charles Barkley. And after going away in 2019, the competition returned with a two-a-year format in 2020.
Here’s a look at who’s participated in The Match over the years and the winners.
Course: Shadow Creek Golf Course (Nevada)
This is where it all started, and there was tons of anticipation for the massive clash. The two were tied after regulation, and Mickelson prevailed in extra holes.
Course: Medalist Golf Club (Florida)
Woods got a little revenge on Mickelson with a win alongside Manning, who finally got a leg up on his NFL rival.
Course: Stone Canyon Golf Club (Arizona)
A few months later, it was Mickelson returning for his third Match appearance and getting revenge on Manning as a couple NBA legends joined the action.
Course: The Reserve at Moonlight Basin (Montana)
DeChambeau became the third pro golfer to play in The Match and paired with Rodgers to help drop the Mickelson-Brady duo to 0-2.
Course: Wynn Golf Club (Nevada)
DeChambeau joined the match for a second time in 2021 to settle his differences with fellow golfer Koepka once and for all.
Course: Wynn Golf Club (Nevada)
Brady teamed up with Rodgers this time to finally get a win in The Match, taking care of business against a couple of young NFL studs.
Course: Pelican Golf Club (Florida)
Woods returned for the first time in three years in a battle between some golf heavy hitters and a reprieve from all the LIV madness gripping the sport.
They might have been underdogs, but they weren’t worried. Mahomes and Kelce came, saw and conquered Curry and Thompson in this battle between championship duos.
