Playstation VR 2 will be released in early 2023. These VR games have been confirmed so far.

The following list only contains titles that Sony itself confirmed for Playstation VR 2. A list of VR games that independent studios have promised for the VR headset can be found at the end of this article.

In this article, we will refrain from nameless titles that have been teased but not yet unveiled. As soon as they are unveiled, we will add them to the article.

The list is sorted alphabetically. These are not necessarily launch titles.

Demeo

Studio: Resolution Games

Also available for: Meta Quest 2, PC VR

Demeo ingeniously simulates tabletop game nights with friends. With up to three allies, you choose from a character class and move your character through dungeons filled with treasures and monsters. In doing so, you can access an arsenal of unique abilities.

Only those who coordinate their actions and know the secrets of the enemies and classes will be able to master the challenging game. Thanks to regular updates of new adventures and classes, the game will keep fans entertained for a long time.

Resolution Games promises the PSVR2 version will have “tons of features that make it truly the best way to experience Demeo to date.” This includes the haptics of the Sense controllers, which make picked-up objects feel different weights. The studio also reworked the graphics to take advantage of the Playstation 5’s capabilities, with Resolution Games promising new shaders and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Firewall Ultra

Firewall Ultra is Rainbow Six: Siege for virtual reality. Its predecessor Firewall Zero Hour, which was also released exclusively for Playstation VR and enjoys great popularity on this platform, is one of the best tactical shooters Virtual Reality has to offer.

Firewall Ultra once again centers around the Contracts mode, in which a team of four mercenaries must try to hack a laptop while the opposing team must prevent this from happening. What’s new is that the matches take place in rounds of three and, for the first time, on dedicated servers, so there should be no more lags. Furthermore, the studio promises a “completely new PvE experience” against computer opponents.

Firewall Ultra will feature new maps and clients, and old content will be completely overhauled, including new areas, textures, and character models.

The VR game is expected to benefit from the strengths of Playstation VR 2. For example, you’ll be able to select weapons and HUD elements via eye control, and each weapon should feel different when fired.

Horizon Call of the Mountain

In Call of the Mountain, you will be fully immersed in the Horizon universe for the first time. The new adventure is experienced through the eyes of Ryas, a former Shadow Carja warrior. Ryas is a masterful climber and archer. In his role, you’ll climb mountains and take down formidable machines such as the Thunder Jaw.

During your journey, you’ll master various tools and weapons, and use materials you find to craft additional equipment. Along the way, you’ll meet new and old Horizon characters, including Aloy herself.

Apart from the main story, Call of the Mountain offers an immersive river journey, in which you’ll get to see an impressive panorama of the game world. Sony praises this virtual reality experience as the perfect introduction to the magic of Playstation VR 2.

Horizon Call of the Mountain, unlike its two 2D predecessors, is not an open-world game and cleverly guides you through the story, which will last about seven hours.

No Man’s Sky

The VR version of No Man’s Sky was released in the summer of 2019 for Playstation VR and PC VR, and featured extensive VR customizations.

“To experience No Man’s Sky in PS VR was a minor miracle, such was the technical challenge we faced bringing an infinite seamless universe into the futuristic headset. Several years later, the technology has taken another major leap forward such that, now, we have the opportunity to immerse the player to a whole new level,” wrote studio head Sean Murray when announcing the PSVR 2 version.

Hello Games plans to reveal further details on the improvements to the PSVR2 version in the coming months.

Resident Evil Village

The VR version of Resident Evil 7 is one of the best games for Playstation VR and Virtual Reality ever and was proven to terrify more than a million people.

With Resident Evil Village, Capcom should succeed in doing the same for Playstation VR 2. This could work, because the sequel is supposed to step it up a notch in all areas – thanks to the graphics power of the PS5, unique technical features of Playstation VR 2 and a lot of detail work on the part of Capcom.

Unlike the predecessor, Resident Evil Village is played with VR controllers, which allows free hand movements and handling of two weapons at the same time. This will make the game feel even more realistic.

The haptic feedback of the headset will also contribute to the immersion. For example, the VR headset vibrates when Lady Dimitrescu’s daughters drag you across the floor. The haptic effect is supposed to increase realism and curb motion sickness.

A rendering technique made possible by Playstation VR’s eye-tracking called foveated rendering allows for a sharp and detailed representation of the environment. Together with Horizon Call of the Mountain, Resident Evil Village should set new standards in VR graphics.

Resident Evil 4 (VR content)

Sony presented the PS5 remake at State of Play in June 2022. In the video stream trailer, it was thrown in that VR content for Resident Evil 4 is in development. The wording suggests that, unlike Resident Evil Village, the remake will not be fully playable in VR. The trailer released after the show, curiously, no longer shows the hint.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution

Studio: Skydance Interactive

The predecessor was one of the best VR games ever. The sequel follows the story of the first part, but is a standalone VR game.

The journey once again takes you to New Orleans, which has been devastated by a zombie apocalypse. The studio promises a new story campaign, new city areas to explore, new weapons and tools, and new gameplay mechanics. Your antagonist is the Axe Man, a mysterious, post-apocalyptic slasher whose actions and intrigues should keep you constantly on your toes throughout the campaign.

The new arsenal will not merely consist of variants of already known weapons but will be designed to let you use unique and new combat techniques. Among the new additions, you’ll find the silencer, new weapons such as the submachine gun and the sawed-off shotgun, as well as a chainsaw.

Ben played the PC VR version of Saints & Sinners 2 at Gamescom 2022 and found it “bloody good.”

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge

Studio: ILMxLAB

You take on the role of a droid technician who crash-lands on the planet Batuu and gets involved in a dangerous adventure searching for a valuable artifact. In the process, you’ll meet familiar characters such as C-3PO and R2-D2.

The center of the VR game is the cantina of the spirited bartender Seezelslak, who takes you to other places and times in the Star Wars galaxy with his titular stories.

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge was originally released in two parts for Meta Quest 2. The Enhanced Edition combines both parts and features boosted graphics. The announcement trailer shows sharper textures, more details, and nicer lighting.

In my review of Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, I attested to the game’s authentic and immersive Star Wars atmosphere with solid shooter gameplay.

Other highlights of the Enhanced Edition include eye-tracking support, 3D audio, and special haptics effects. “By combining all the sensory features the PSVR2 has to offer, you will feel like you are living in the Star Wars galaxy,” ILMxLAB promises.
