Ex-Capitol Police officer endorsed by two Jan. 6 committee members – Washington Examiner appeared on www.washingtonexaminer.com by washingtonexaminer.com.
Former Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn received endorsements from two members of the Jan. 6 committee ahead of his congressional bid.
Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Bennie Thompson (D-MS) have announced they are backing Dunn after serving on the committee that once heard Dunn’s testimony about the riots. Schiff claimed that “Harry Dunn defended my life on January 6th.” Thompson agreed, saying Dunn “did his job and defended my colleagues regardless of their party affiliation.”
Dunn also received endorsements from Reps. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and Jasmine Crockett (D-TX). This comes after Dunn received $2.75 million from ActBlue, a grassroots donation site, which was the most of any candidate running for the House or Senate. This was notably less than the $1.4 million Schiff received, who is currently running for California’s senate seat.
“Our campaign’s momentum shows that Marylanders are ready for fresh leadership,” Dunn said. “I’m humbled and honored for this support, and I look forward to calling these amazing leaders, my colleagues, when I’m elected to Congress.”

There are 21 other candidates running for Rep. John Sarbanes’s (D-MD) seat since he announced he will retire. His district, Maryland’s third, is decidedly Democratic-leaning and is expected to go to a Democratic candidate despite Sarbanes losing steam in recent years. In 2020, he won by over 69% of the vote, which diminished to 60% in 2022. Sarbanes has been in office since 2007, and faced Democratic challengers in nearly every primary election.
Jan. 6 has largely been a theme of Dunn’s campaign. President Joe Biden went on to award Dunn the Presidential Citizens Medal for his efforts during the riots.
