Fanatics is staffing up as it expands into collectibles, sports betting, and more. Pay data reveals how much the merch giant offers for dozens of tech and data jobs.

Fanatics Inc. has quickly grown into much more than a sports commerce giant.

Since 2021, the company has expanded to related sports businesses, including collectibles and betting and gaming, and it’s sizing up other opportunities such as media and ticketing.

Its expansion has been well-documented through its aggressive moves. It raised $350 million in Series A funding for its collectibles in late 2021, acquired trading card company Topps for $500 million in January, and purchased legacy sports apparel company Mitchell and Ness for $250 million a month later. In March, Fanatics Inc. announced a $1.5 billion funding round that put its valuation at $27 billion. 

Fanatics is also sleeping giant in the sports-betting industry, with the potential to combine collectibles, NFTs, and gambling into one platform. While the company has yet to launch its sportsbook, founder and CEO Michael Rubin has confirmed the company’s intentions to enter the sports-betting space and taken steps in that process, including selling his ownership stake in the Philadelphia 76ers to avoid a “conflict” with the company’s sports betting and collectibles plans.

Fanatics’ betting and gaming side has nearly 80 open positions listed on its website — with at least ten roles responsible for its sportsbook. That’s just a fraction of the more than 400 open positions listed across the company, which has more than 10,000 employees around the world, according to its website.

To gauge how much Fanatics pays staffers, Insider analyzed salary data from 159 work-visa applications from Fanatics that were filed with the US government and decided on between October 2020 and June 2022.

It included base salaries for mainly tech jobs in the retail division, ranging from a data engineer position that would make $110,000 per year to a director of product management that would earn between $201,968 and $231,750 per year.

The salaries varied by role and location, with jobs based in parts of Florida, including Jacksonville where Fanatics is headquartered, as well as California, Colorado, Nevada, and New York.

The data have limitations. They include only base salaries, and not other forms of compensation like stock options. And they only cover US-based jobs for which the companies sought to hire through work visas, which skew toward tech roles.

Still, the data offer insight into certain salary levels across the company, which ranged from $57,138 to $233,200 per year.

The pay data is detailed below, broken down by business unit and title.

Some of Fanatics work-visa applications included salary ranges, rather than a single annual salary, for a given role. For example, the data included a pay rate of $125,486 to $130,000 for an experimentation strategist position. We included these ranges below. In cases where Fanatics submitted multiple applications for a particular job, such as a software engineer, we included the median wage rate, as well as the lowest and highest salary for the role.

Fanatics declined to comment on this story.

Most of the salaries listed in the data were for roles in the retail group, but there was one listed as part of the larger Fanatics organization:
